Disney Confirms Skyliner Gondolas Will Not Have Air Conditioning"
So why stay at a connecting Skyliner resort ?

Yep. That’s me. Air conditioning or no air conditioning, I’m not getting into a gondola, but I love Pop and I don’t think that’s going to change.

I wonder how the resorts are going to handle transportation for people who are afraid of heights, claustrophobic or other "Gondola Adverse" problems. I have a feeling they are going to make it 'painful' if you must use other transportation options, for example running buses infrequently or running a bus during inconvenient times.

I also wonder about the scooter set. How is that going to work as far as transfers. I'd bet the cars can handle scooters but can the drivers handle the loading and unloading. We've all see the scooter gymnastics on the other transportation forms. I would imagine that there must be a way to give a scooter containing car more time to load and unload.

And the back ups at the International Gate... I'm guessing that you will have to go through security before boarding the gondola so they will have to separate the walk ins from the Boardwalk resorts area... but do the gondola people then have to scan their park tickets somewhere?? Yes but how is this traffic stream going to work?

So many questions concerning the operation of these gondolas, so little information.

If they no longer offer buses to HS and Epcot, we'll be driving.

We would stay at those resorts because we like them, but I have no intention of getting on the skyliner. We haven't used WDW buses for the last few on-site trips because the service had declined so much. It's much easier to drive ourselves.

I won't be riding the gondola (DH is a skier and I learned early on that they bother my claustrophobia.) but would still stay at Pop IF:

1. Pop continues to run regular buses to Epcot.

2. Pop rates don't go too much higher than the All Stars.

I rarely stay at CBR. If I'm paying Moderate prices I prefer the Port Orleans resorts.

I believe the gondolas get pulled to the side to load scooters. This allows the rest of the line to continue as usual.

I'm going to assume the Disney engineers are not totally incompetent. Going to the parks I'll be dressed to be outside all day based on whatever the weather is doing hot or cold. As long as the gondola vehicles are close to the outside temp I'll be fine. I'll pay extra for easy/quick access to/from the parks. Bring it on say I.

1. This system was not designed by Disney. They are using 100% stock equipment from Doppelmayr. Doppelmayr is expert in system design for gondolas and ski lifts. This may be Disney's first gondola, but certainly not Doppelmayr's.

2. The system is better off with its non-AC design than trying to do AC. The two major systems worldwide with AC are in cooler climates. On a gondola system, all power for the car must be carried onboard the car. This means battery systems. AC is a huge power hog, as anyone who has ever paid a summer power bill can testify, or seen their gas mileage take a dump when they're driving with the AC on. Batteries suitable for onboard a gondola, without an external fuel source, simply cannot keep up, and you have to have low ventilation to try to keep the cool air in. Meanwhile, because these cars move rapidly, forced air is reliable, and never runs out of juice, and the opening of the doors doesn't let all the air out. Batteries simply cannot run all day and create AC under current tech. Forced air plus glass treatment will make these rides far more comfortable than being stuck in a monorail for half an hour.

3. The stock equipment in use detaches from the cable in a turnaround for complex loads. ECVs can roll in and out of the carriages in use. The line will not be stopping and starting like an old-school omnimover when presented with ECV transfer.

Not planning on using these much, if any. Fear of them basically. Husband doesn't even like getting on the monorails anymore because he knows they need to be replaced. Surely can't imagine getting on one of these in the dead of summer, but we don't go to the theme parks in the extreme heat anymore. Done that once, and done. I believe Disney will reduce the number of buses to the parks at the resorts that these gondolas service. I think this will result in more people driving to the parks, which is good for Disney, I think? More parking fees in their pocket, and having to provide less transportation for more guest if they provide their own. Win-Win for Disney.

I’m excited for the gondola and see no need to worry over the lack of AC until I’m there and have given it a try myself. I highly doubt Disney will start restricting bus service to force people to use the gondola - and if anyone is really that concerned over it, I’d suggest just picking another resort until people report in about their experiences. It’s nothing to stress over, really. :confused3

I'm not terribly concerned about the lack of A/C as I have confidence the manufacturers of this system know what they are doing. My bigger concern, for myself, is my claustrophobia, so, I'll be watching carefully when the gondolas are first introduced to see if they are running smoothly. I've been caught in some ride delays in the parks that almost sparked panic attacks, so, as much as I'd like to ride the gondolas, I'm a little on the fence about it. If it looks like they are fairly reliable, I would definitely price out the possibility of staying at the Riviera resort. We typically stay in the EP area as I love the convenience and I love BWV and BCV. If Riviera prices lower than those resorts, I would definitely consider it with the new convenience of the gondolas. We shall see!

I don't think the Gondolas can be any hotter that the FriendShips!lol:)
The boats are really windy though which helps but I agree that they can be uncomfortable. It looks like airflow will be more limited in the gondola but we'll see.

I don't plan to ride them because of height issues. I will check out the reports before completely abandoning those resorts however.

FWIW, I've ridden in similar gondolas, and the forced air venting shouldn't be underestimated. Expect your hair to get wack if not already embracing hat head.
