Why so many resales

WOOOOO! So if there are 47 Million points sold at only 8 DVC resorts it sounds as though it would be difficult to get the dates you wanted even with an 11 month reservation.

Disney has not (could not legally) oversell the resorts. But they do sell them to be pretty much completely full year round. And, of course, certain times of year are more popular than others (and those times often surprise people - early December is a very popular DVC time).

Want to have a BLT Themepark View on New Years Eve to see the fireworks? - better own there and be booking 11 months out in the morning - you might not get that rooms if you wait until 11am Eastern Time - and your chances it will be available seven months out aren't pretty dismal. However, want a room - any room at any resort - in early February - you'll problem find availability as late as January, maybe later - it might not be the resort you'd pick if you had a choice - and a longish stay might have you moving rooms - or even resorts, but chances are something will be available.

There are a lot of points out there - but there are a lot of rooms - each taking between 8 and a few hundred points per night and 365 nights in the year.

Thinking about adding on but do not want to refinance home. What finance company have you used and are you glad you did?

Opps meant to start a new thread not write on someone elses.

Sorry

We've been kicking around selling our BLT so we can purchase the Poly when it comes online. :surfweb:

I was forced to sell during my divorce- almost harder to let go then my house. Now six years later I am waiting on disney to pass on my resale. In my mind it was always something I missed and wanted to get back.

THis is my scenario. I ended up keeping the points just found a way to do it I was not letting them go. It was touch and go financially for a bit but was well worth it IMHO. I have since put in offers on 2 more contracts one did not succeed and one I am waiting on and looking at atleast one more currently.

Supersnoop...thanks for that info! Very interesting. Probably so few on the resale market because Disney seems to be one of the top timeshares for member satisfaction. I wonder what percent of the resorts actually get sold each calendar year?

Your question is a good one mainly because it is not one Disney would want you to be asking. My guess is you won't buy until you have it all figured out which is really pretty important unless you have so much money you don't know what to do with it all. Disney is flat-out big-time expensive for one vacation let alone for a lifetime of them.

We pondered for 15 years before buying into DVC all while we took 1x to 2x per year vacations there. Our College age kids still love it and so does my wife and I so we finally bought (resale). What we settled on for now is 50 points at BWV. We will use it for a 5 night stay in our 2nd favorite resort every Jan right after New Years. This also got us the discount for season passes. We will also be going in May for a week the old fashioned way but armed with our season passes made cheaper from DVC. From here we may buy a lot more or sell the 50 points, or hold steady depending on where we retire to. If we retire next door to Disney we sell...

So, life happens and we could buy or sell still. I tell our story not that it should be copied but to provide a datapoint as each person and situation is different. The main thing is keep asking those good questions. The more you know the more precise your decision will be.

Only responding because our stories are so similar. We considered buying for 14 years, and finally bought 50 points at BWV in late 2012 to use on a vacation each January.

Now we're already up to 190 BWV points (mostly resale points) and are signing a contract to buy another 65. Once they hooked us, we were easy to reel in. :)

We too considered buying for several years until finally doing so. The 'tipping point' for us was when our 3rd child was close to turning 3 - at which time we would need a deluxe room anyway. Plus we prefer the extra space.

In a funny story, we were talking DVC and a couple with 3 kids a little older than ours overhead us while on one of the boats to Epcot. We spent the entire boat time talking to them about how it was basically it was a no brainer for them - once they got that 3rd child!!

Our Disney vacations became much more laid back once we owned DVC. We like staying in our room and staying on property so we go to the parks about every other day rather than daily.

We enjoy the property amenities - all the activities for kids (pool parties, campfires, movies).

We bought 3 years ago and it was definitely a great decision - we have gone the Grand Californian and Disney Hilton Head as well as SSR, WL and Boardwalk. Pretty sure we have already made back our investment!! (it is super expensive to pay cash at Grand Californian!!)

I also like to do a week in FLorida combined with 2-3 nights DVC to extend our beach vacations and taste a little bit of Disney.

We will bring my parents/in laws with us sometimes too and stay in a 2BR.

Unfortunately we bought a stripped contract and are always in the hole borrowing points!! :)

Good luck with your decision - we have been there!!!

Well, we just sold our last contract :( 196 points at VWL for 79 a point. We had previously sold off other smaller contracts. ( I did make money on the sales while having a blast for 12+ years) Seems as the kids got older, we went less and less. Plus even trying to book 4 months out was almost impossible other than SSR or maybe OKW, which arent bad places but I prefer MK area. We found it hard to plan at the 11 month window. Every year I was banking, this past year my sister used some of them and I still banked 144 points! So figured it was time. At 1152 a year in maintenance, and ability to put away the money from the sale, if we want to go every other year or so, not a problem. Also found as the kids are older (one gone at 21 and a 14 year old), I no longer needed the laundry in the room, or larger rooms, a deluxe with mini fridge/coffee/micro was perfect.
