Why so hard to find DL info?

I can't find a good map. Touring advice, nothing. What is the deal? I don't just mean on here. I feel like I am a WDW expert but DL is freaking me out!

Because it's best to enjoy the experience and just have a zen moment? LOL--really--look at HydroGuy's tips on the stickys--they are very good. The one big difference between DLR and WDW is that DLR isn't nearly as complicated as WDW . . . .there are touring plans and such available but other than a few key attractions you won't have much problem and the distance between DL and DCA is so small that there aren't transportation issues. There aren't that many restaurants either so there's less to plan for . . . . From what I understand (and will know better after November) in some ways its like MK/DHS and portions of Epcot all wrapped up in one smaller bundle--just enjoy!

There's A LOT of good DLR info here on this board. Just lurk around the existing posts, look at all the stickies (especially Hydro's), and ask as many questions as you like. Most of us are just sittin by waiting to help.

OP! What sort of maps are you looking for? I think that HydroGuy has touring plans covered (and/or you could buy ridemax), but do you have other questions that we could answer for ya? At least until DH tears me away from the computer to take a walk with him and DS?

I just wanted to find park maps with the rides listed. I love the maps WDW sent us but, I can't find anything similar on the site for DLR

I am very curious of the rides that are the same at WDW and DLR which ones have differences. I know PoC is different and IASW (which is closed) but, what other ones?

I can't find a walking distance hotel for our tentative dates 4/16-4/19or20, probably spring break anyone have a good suggestion for one around the $100 or under range that is an easy drive? This is really meant to be a quick trip and may be shortened. Dh has a business trip to make to San Fran and Ds(2) and I were going to tag along and take a drive up. When Ds is older I would love to do a big trip and stay at the Californian hotel. We have a WDW trip already planned for Nov. so I am trying to keep it cheap-o.

When it comes to maps for DLR, I know exactly what you mean. : For some reason, Disney doesn't provide good maps for DLR on the internet.

Maybe someone else knows where to find some great maps.

From WillCad's "Theme Park Maps", here are maps for DL, DCA, DLR, and DTD.

If you scroll down from "Theme Park Maps", there are some additional JPGs of the DL Area, GCH, DLH, and PPH.

These maps, Live Map and wikimapia are interesting.

.................I am feeling the exact same way. We haven't been to DL in years, but with our son's Marine graduation next month we decided to go back again! Trying to find out as much info as possible since I also seem a bit lost compared to WDW.

It's not terrific, but if you go to disneyland.com and look towards the top, you'll see the word MAP. Click on that and a popup shows up, and it's a semi-interactive map that can give you some good info. At one point I saved some of the maps to my computer as a PDF.

Also, if you create an account on disneyland.com (or just use your same log-in from disneyworld.com!) you can get to My Disneyland, where you can access customizable PRINTABLE maps (nothing like the ones disneyworld will send you, they are just for printing).

I just checked this and right now it's unavailable (as geocities sites sometimes do), but it's good to Bookmark for later b/c it's a nice map of the DLR area and the hotels and restaurants. http://www.geocities.com/ashpsyche/DisneylandLinkMap.html



When I went to DLR in January, I came back with extra maps, and sent them out to those who wanted them (they went fast!). So I'm sure that as those people come back from their trips, they will bring maps back as well. Be on the lookout for posts from people who brought home maps to send out to others, and PM them quickly! It can be so fun to have an actual from-the-park map in your hands for planning, it just feels so real, even if it's the same map you just printed out from your computer. Seriously, it feels different even though it's the same (which is why I brought maps home for others, to pay it forward from the person who sent ME maps while planning).

I use a Mac too, and have found Firefox a much better browser with the DLR website. HTH!

I just checked, and the Anaheim Plaza Hotel is available. It's not fancy, but it is clean and a quick walk to the parks.

As the person above mentioned...the Anaheim Plaza isn't too bad. It's pretty old but we've stayed there twice and it was a good bargain and only about a 10 minute walk to the parks.

Rides...

The Haunted Mansion is slightly different. It doesn't have a few of the scenes that the one at WDW has (like with all the stairs) but it's pretty similar and just as good.

Pirates is a lot LONGER at Disneyland. Personally, I think it's a million times better than the one at WDW.

It's a Small World is basically the same ride but the outside is much neater (not sure if you can still see the outside with the refurb going on though?)

Space Mountain is a ZILLION times better at Disneyland. Really smooth and dark. Great music. We weren't fans of the one at WDW.

Big Thunder is practically the same.

Snow White is shorter and not as complete. Much better at WDW.

Disneyland does not have a People Mover. I enjoy the one at WDW a lot.

Disneyland's treehouse is the Tarzan treehouse instead of Swiss Family Robinson.

Toon Town has a lot more going on at Disneyland. I found the one at WDW to be a bit....blah. At Disneyland it's really neat and has a lot of cool stuff to look at. It also has the ride Roger Rabbit's Toon Spin (or whatever it's called.)

Buzz Lightyear is better at Disneyland. You can actually pick the guns up to aim them...which is nice.

Rides that Disneyland has that aren't at WDW.....Alice in Wonderland, Pinnochio, Mr. Toad's Wild Ride, Indiana Jones (don't miss it!), the Matterhorn (don't miss it!), the Nemo subs (although it's pretty much the same as the Nemo ride at epcot, except you're in a submarine.)

There are other rides in both parks like the Jungle Cruise and stuff (but I don't remember the ones at WDW so I'm not going on to comment on them.)

At California Adventure, the only two rides at WDW are Soarin' (which is exactly the same) and Tower of Terror (which is slightly different..it doesn't have the 5th dimension part of the ride.)

The fireworks are AWESOME at Disneyland. I wasn't that impressed with the show at WDW.

We went in October and I did bring some maps back but gave them to friends...You might want to start a thread and ask if anyone who is going soon be kind enough to send you some current maps. I know so many people are so willing to help out! I will be going again in June and will be bringing back a bunch so I can forward them. It is so nice to plan from an actual map, and exciting as well!

Trust me the first trip to a new Disney park is always a mix of fright and joyful expectation. I almost had a breakdown planning my first multi-day stay at WDW

If my foot is better next week I will grab a mass of maps for everyone otherwise it will be two weeks. I will post when I get them.

The good news as it has been said you don't need to do DLR nearly as commando WDW. Which is scary when WDW are use to that style and DLR have no idea why you can't just go hahaha!
