Why so busy during the first week of December?

I just booked AKL December 1-9. Most of the other hotels where not available. Anyone know why Disney seems so crowed this time of the year? I am very excited but a bit concerned about the crowds. I thought this was typically a slow time at Disney.

Pop Warner is December 4-11.

There have been some threads on Pop Warner week recently...unfortunately most not very favorable...

Also, the parade taping is on the 4th.

We are at WL 12/4-11 and had to make a room only ressie for the 4th, and a package w/ FD for the 5th-11th. That was the only way I could avoid paying for the courtyard view for the entire week. Now I only have it for the 1 night and a standard view for the rest of the trip.

I think the courtyard view would be lovely, but not for an extra $400.
