Riverside looks so much more relaxing. Why does everyone prefer French Street?

WE just got back from POR Sat Feb 2nd. At first I wanted french quarter and my husband wanted riverside. He said it looked more relaxing. After we got there I thought Riverside did indeed look more relaxing and beautiful especially the mansions. They looked like the old south. To me french quarter looked like a motel 6 with bars from the outside,we did not look inside I am just going by appearance from the outside. We stayed at the alligator bayou section of riverside which was very close to the dining and the south depot for the buses. My husband is in a wheelchair so our travel agent booked us building 14 which is as close as you can get to the dining. We had a room that was right across from the river and ducks. There is a watermill near the dining and I caught a picture in the evening at sunset absolutely beautiful.I am very glad my husband suggestion riverside over french quarter. Which ever resort you pick you can catch the boat ride to downtown disney. It was very relaxing one of my favorite things to do.Also if you want to rent boats you do that at riverside. I promise you if you choose riverside you will not be dissapointed and you cannot stop talking about or wait to go back. Check out my thread. I was just like you I started a thread before we visited and everyone assured me I would love riverside. Just click on my name and you can see all of the threads and all of the nice things people say about it. They really like the banana stuffed french toast at boatwright. You can still dine at boatwrights from French quarter. Anything either resort have they share.

I honestly can't say, as I've only stayed at POR - but I fell in love with the place. It was so beautiful and so serene. And they offer so many extras, it's like staying deluxe for a moderate price.:thumbsup2

The one reason I can think of that MIGHT be why some people like FQ better is the bus situation. FQ is almost always picked up first and dropped off first, as POR and FQ share buses.

We loved the FQ .

Everything is so close but never seemed crowded,Bus situation,Food Court was very nice. We walked over to RS many times but still just really enjoyed the FQ side.

I think the RS Pool was a bit better for our Age of DD but for little kids I think FQ is better.

POFQ is our Mod of choice when not styaing on our DVC points

I've stayed at both and POR is definitely better than POFQ. DH said it's his favorite resort of them all!! He wanted to know why don't stay at that one all the time :confused3 Then I explained it's all the experience "I" want!!!;) Anyway, POR is awesome!! The mansion section is better IMO, but many people love Alligator Bayou.

Enjoy your stay!!

Everyone is different and some things appeal to you better. We loved that POFQ was small and cozy. It was close to walk to the food court, bus stop and boat dock. Having never been there in person, I felt like I was walking in New Orleans without being in Louisiana.

Before buying DVC, we tried many resorts, and I can say we were never disappointed in any.

I have stayed at both POR and POFQ, and I like POR better. Yes, POR is quite a bit larger, but it has gorgeous paths that just beg you to walk around. And the busses do pick up at POFQ first, but I would rather stand on the bus and have a shorter ride to the parks, than be picked up first and have to ride around for 15 minutes. Before leaving for the parks. The pool area at POR is far and away superior. It is larger and themed for everyone to enjoy. The one at POFQ is geared towards small children. Both resorts are served by a boat to get to/from DownTown Disney, but the boat picks up at POR first. Some people have reported that by the time the boat gets to POFQ it is full or has very few seats left. Plus POR has Piano Man Bob, and he is lots of fun!:goodvibes He gets the whole crowd involved with this piano playing. If you stay at POR you simply must check him out!

I have stayed at both and have to say that I like POFQ best!!! It is small and quaint. Everything is within a 5 minute walk, even the rooms down by the river.

I like getting on the boat to DTD. We have never had a problem getting seats. I don't so much like taking the bus to DTD as it seems like it takes forever and, to me, it never seems to stop at the same place twice to let you off. I have had a difficult time with that bus.

The rooms have always been clean and very neat at both resorts.

The food court does leave alot to be desired, but, it is a 7 minute or so walk to POR to the food court there. That is a plus for POR.

I also like the gift shop better at POR because it is larger and seems to have more.

The POR is so spread out that it takes anywhere from 10 to 15 minutes to get to the food court. We were in BLDG 18 and it was a trip every time.
We did find a "short cut" through the parking lot to the bus stop so that helped.

At POFQ, the buses are convinent and normally stop first at POFQ when heading to the parks. Coming back, sometimes, the resort has its' own bus.
Even if there isn't a POFQ only bus, POFQ is the first stop. What a plus after a long day of walking in the parks!

The landscaping at both is beautifully done, however, I got the feeling that we were in a swamp at POR. It seemed to me that it was very humid there and heaven knows that, in the summer, one thing you don't need is more humidity!!!!! At POFQ, the landscaping is done beautifully as well. Each building appears to have a courtyard full of beautiful azeleas and magnolia trees. The fragrances floating up in the morning as you step outside is wonderful.

Either place is great, (afterall, you're at WDW!) but given a choice, I would always pick POFQ!!

We stayed at POR twice in '06 and loved it, But we realized that POFQ suited our needs better. What I mean is, we love to go to DTD every trip. Both have the water taxi from the resorts to DTD, but POR has to stop at FQ first. This did not bother us until we were going to DTD for a dinner reservation at Wolfgang Puck and before we got to the FQ stop my DS2 said he had to go potty. Well my party and I ran off the water taxi, and I took my DS to the BR and by the time we got back to the dock the water taxi, had left and it took 15min. for another one to show. Long story short my DW and I had to run to make the 15min past our reservation time for WGP as it is on the complete other side of DTD from the boat dock. So we said we will stay at FQ next time just for that reason. Also it is the fist stop between the two resorts so you get to sit down in the Mornings and if standing on the way back you are first to get off. Besides who goes to Disney to walk around the grounds. Also if sitting down for breakfast and ordering is your thing than POR is for you, but that would be it because you don't want to wast a TS credit on the DDP at Boatwright's:scared1: . The only down side to POFQ we had during Mardi Gras weedend '08 was the crowd for breakfast, but if you get there before 8AM there are fewer people.

I like POFQ better due to the smaller size and the fact I think it has a much better pool!

That being said I'd have no problem staying at either one again!
