Sorry, I just think this is a really bad idea!

62-year-old woman gives birth to son

LONDON — When a woman is changing diapers at age 62, odds are it's on a grandchild. But Patti Farrant is doing it for her newborn son.

Farrant is now Britain's oldest mother. Her son was conceived after fertility treatments, and was delivered by Caesarean section this week. J-, as he's known, is healthy, and, as his mom describes him, "adorable.''

Farrant has three grown children from an earlier marriage, but this is her first child with her current husband, who is 60.

I just don't get it. :confused3 The poor kid will proabably lose both his parents very early in life. Sometimes, I think medical "miracles" have gone too far. For women, of child bearing years, I think fertility treatments have opened many doors for them that would have been shut. But in cases like this, I think its physician ego and selfish parents.

Yeah- they paid the doctor to do it because God had already taken away that particular function. I'm guessing (from her age) it was donor eggs (fertility goes steadily downhill from age 30 on..... ) and artificial insemination. I doubt a drug did this.

I couldn't have said it any better.

I'm with the "selfish" crowd. My DH was raised by his grandmother who was much younger than this when he was born. The generational differences are astounding. And not in a good way. :sad2:

There is a reason why women naturally lose fertilioty after a certain age.

It is because they should not be bearing children.

I think this is selfish.
