Why no screens on patio doors?

I always wondered why they don't have screens on the patios doors at the resorts. I love having the door open, but rarely do because I am afraid of bugs coming in.

Any ideas?

At OKW and resorts that use standard swinging doors for the patio, probably because it would take up a lot of your patio space to allow for the screen door to be opened and closed, possibly not leaving enough room for the table and chairs.

At resorts with sliding patio doors, the reason could be that sliding screens are fairly easily damaged.

I think it is to discourage guests from leaving the doors open. Open doors create both a security risk (especially on lower floors) and air conditioning expense.

Bingo,maintenance, I actually asked about screens a few years ago and got " Can you imagine how many times the screens would have to be replaced". After that comment I'm actually glad that screen doors are not available our dues would probably take a big hit.

Many hotels will have a warning not to run the air if you are going to open the doors, in fact I thought I had seen that at Disney hotels.

Most Floridians I know keep their patio doors closed for these very reasons. Even if they have a screen room and there are minimal bugs/lizards, the air is usually so humid you just don't want it in your house.

I was just going to say, there are probably very few days that the majority of people would want their patio doors open in Florida because of the heat and humidity.

And judging by how many times I've had to repair/replace ours at home, I can't imagine how often it would need to be done in a resort room.

up until yesterday, I would say we had our patio doors open without screens for the past month. any visitor here during that time was probably very tempted to leave the door open, it has been so nice.

I really hope we can keep the doors open more this winter. little cold right now, but is suppose to heat back up by the weekend.

Makes total sense. Being from MN, I take any chance I can to get some nice warm air when I am in FL in the winter.

Yeah -- us too. Temps plunged into the 60's last night and it's still a frigid 74 right now.

It's a hoot going out in Miami right now -- all the tourists are in shorts and the natives are wearing ski parkas!

Reminds me of our December 07 trip. We arrived at OKW in the early afternoon with temps around 60. All the OKW outdoor CM's were wearing winter gear and huddled around propane patio heaters while we are running around in shorts and tank tops praising the perfect weather.

I can spot the locals and tourists when we go to WDW for our January trip.

Was in HHI at the end of March once, mid 60's, us Northerners are in shorts and the locals bundled up like we do when it's in the 20's.

Money--like others have said the ones for sliding doors break easily or get off track and the screen get holes in them or tear and that would be more maintenance and replacement costs. Also you can't turn off your AC or heating so that means it runs with the doors open and they'll be trying to compensate for all that cooler or warmer air coming into the room. That's higher utility bills for the resort.

They just don't want an extra door in the way of your committing suicide when you get your final bill after you have been unconsciously charging everything to the room throughout the trip.
