Why, oh why, do they feel the need to change the "channel lineup" :confused3 .

Sometimes they are forced to make those changes. Our local channels used to be on different cable channels than they were over-the-air. In other words, NBC broadcast on Channel 3, but was on cable 13. Until someone got the bright idea that people would not be able to find Channel 3 unless it was on Channel 3 everywhere. So they shuffled the lineup and now we have crappy reception because the Channel 3 signal from the airwaves bleeds into the version on the cable.

Or maybe they are just messing with you.

Blame the lawmakers. In every case I've ever read about the change was not their idea. There are many rules about what must go where and new rules are being made all the time.

Sometimes it is based on bandwidth limitations. Analog channels take up far greater bandwidth than digital channels. Generally, cable companies need to keep the analog channels on frequencies below channel 100. So if they need to make room for a new analog channel, they may need to relocate a digital channel, being broadcast on an analog frequency below channel 100, up to a digital frequency, typically above channel 200.

Ours hasn't really made too many changes except for their fee. It is constantly going up but we aren't getting anything extra or better.
