Why is the Contemporary so Expensive?

We have points at BLT and we love it for location. I know lots of people don't like the room decor saying it's not "Disney"

BLT has room decor?

Didn't notice with the wall of windows showing Disney's Magic Kingdom from our LR, and looking at the Magic Kingdom Castle sitting on our King Bed, and hearing the Train while watching from our balcony, and Wishes playing on our TV while we watched that.

We never close the curtains actually. Beautiful at night as well, and nobody can see in the higher floors. Plus with 3 bathrooms in the 2 BR and 2 Bathrooms in the 1BR-no need to change in the room areas.

Kinda Screamed Disney actually. pixiedust:

I think some folks think of Disney and want it to be like a child's room where it's "all over" Disney. From bed spreads to every possible thing from lobby to room. I think for me, I felt it was more of a modern look and I honestly didn't really care since I wasn't there to stay in my room. We often got up for rope drop and never got back to our room until post-fireworks and it'd be to rest and bathe. I love BLT but I know it's not for ones with young kids who might find it 'boring' compared to some of the more 'themed' DVC or even regular resorts.

Allstars then IMO.

This is why I stay offsite. I'd rather stay in an actual deluxe accommodation for half the price than pay disney's inflated room rates.

You should reevaluate and compare what means more to you. Money, or time.

Money can be saved and replenished, but time is a commodity that you do not get to horde nor do you get it back.

The extra amount of time that it takes to get to/from the various Disney parks as well as the time it takes to get to/from the car can be considerable. If you have kids and you are lugging them back to the car while they are passed out on your shoulder, that extra distance to get to the car can be as laborious as shoving a boulder up a mountain.

While I would never waste the extra cash on a deluxe Disney property, I would also spend that much more to stay at a value or a moderate over a stay at a fancy but cheap off site anywhere.

The CR is one of the few resorts at Disney that does not appeal to me at all. Absolutely no desire to stay there even for the location. But modern themes don't typically appeal to me in general. But I think we all look for something a little different from our vacations.

I always wanted to stay at the Contemporary and I finally got my wish in 2012. I had received a PIN in the mail for 35% off a deluxe room and I jumped on it. Stayed there 4 nights in the tower - Bay Lake view. My husband really enjoyed relaxing on the beach, while I liked sitting on the balcony (we had an 11th floor room) and just looking at the peacefulness of the lake. The ability to walk to MK is pretty priceless, IMO, especially after Wishes, when it's nuts trying to get out of there on any form of transportation. It's also pretty awesome having the monorail stop inside the hotel! I do like YC better, but only by a nose, and I hope to stay at the Contemporary again one day.

THE CONTEMPORARY has the best rooms at WDW, that's why. Those rooms that overlook the MK, and also have the monorail running outside their door are AWESOME. We had the good fortune of staying in one last spring, and we'll never forget it. I hope that we can get back there some day.

As for the rest of the resort, the "garden wing", plain and simple it's not worth the money they ask. I would never pay to stay out there.

We are staying at CR this summer and are so excited, particularly for the ability to see the Castle/Space Mountain from our bedroom, to watch Wishes, and the ability to walk back and forth to MK. Well worth the price.

I never saw the love for CR at all....until we stayed there when our twins were 1 year old. The ability to walk back and forth to MK with little ones and a double stroller = priceless to us. At a value/moderate, we would've had to unload that double stroller every single time we took a bus, fold the stroller, hold the babies and bags, etc. At the CR, all we had to do was push our stroller back and forth. We were able to bring a large, comfortable stroller with reclining seats and canopies; therefore, our kids napped and slept very easily in it. HUGE difference in relaxation for us.

There is no right or wrong, but what works for you. I always prefer to stay on property (even if not staying at DVC). While at first glance staying off property seems like a bargain for us we have found the convenience of staying on property enhances our stay, even if we stay at a moderate. Before staying off property I would look at Swan or Dolphin, or even Hotel Blvd. I'd rather not travel off property except maybe to grab groceries etc. For us the ability to potentially walk or boat to a Park adds so much not to mention the room views, gardens, landscaping and overall IMO superior service/friendliness of the staff.
