Why is PHX-MCO so expensive?

The past few years PHX-MCO has been absurdly high priced. Anyone know why? Carriers reduce number of flights, low demand etc? It has been in the $400-$550 range for several years now for most of the dates in the off season. Currently looking at late Sept, early Oct. Any others in the southwest finding the same thing?

I've found that flying anywhere involving Phoenix costs an arm and a leg.

For the last few years, I consider us lucky if we get something for $175 each way. We are out of Sacramento. I try to do miles for one way and purchase tickets for the other way.

I was considering flying SEA - MCO at Spring break until I found out Alaska was charging $1,300 RT. I stayed home.
