Why is it that when we end up not taking a camera, or even have it out and ready.... things happen?

And, I am not talking minor things, but things that make my kids' day?

For example:

We were there one night during Christmas time. My mom took my son to go ride the Astro Orbitor. I saw all the characters go towards the ride, while I was saving a bench for the fireworks. I thought, "WOW! Those kids are sure lucky to be on that ride with the characters."

My mom and son walked up right after that, and my son got on with Goofy!

Now, we just went yesterday, and my son got chosen to do the Jedi Training camp. Totally unexpected, and really a highlight for my son.

BOTH times... did I have my camera? No! :sad2:

I know I have probably just done a major offense to some people.. I just didn't feel like taking the camera yesterday, and didn't think that anything would happen.

I guess I have learned my lesson about that.

What lessons have you learned on your trips?

Sorry you missed those great moments. But, its really the memories that count, and you have those!

I've learned to always take a change of clothes for my little guy. If I take some, we'll get thru the whole day with out needing them. If I dont take him a change, he'll either wet his pants, spill a drink in his lap or sit in something gross. Never fails.

not to ride space mt, california scream, indiana jones, tot, and soaring within 1.5 hours on an empty stomach...

I learned, my dh takes terrible pictures!!! I gave him a disposable camera, and I had the digital. That way, even when we split up to do different things, whatever child with him would still get their picture taken.

At Goofy's Kitchen on the last day, he was trying to use up the roll. (that's right. I took almost 600 pics on the digital, but he had to work to finish up a roll of 36 :sad2: ) He took picutres of us eating, among other things, and chose terrible angles for the pictures. I didn't tell him this, of course, as I have the pictures covered with the digital. But, I will say that I ran to get FP for GRR and while I was gone, the kids ran into Stanley. And dh forgot about his disposable camera and took one lousy picture with his picture phone!! :rolleyes1

Men! It's a good thing they have more than one use (No offense to anyone)

Yes, I do have those moments, and we have the memories, and the great memories of being there together.

I always have to take a change of clothes for my Daughter. But, like you, when I don't have them.. she needs them. Murphy's Law I guess.

When you do something crazy or silly with a DIS group, someone will always have a camera ready for that shot. ;)

Thanks for the heads up! I'll keep that in mind! :)

I finally learned on the camera thing, I bought a small digital camera and a neck strap, I spent most of this last trip with the camera hanging from my neck, I look like a geek but it works.

abby - I agree. I looked like a total nerd on this last trip but it was so worth it as I got some great shots!!

BTW, I never got to post to you after we got back! How was your trip? Ours was pretty good but short. MHT was great, especially at the end. Don't know if you stayed the whole time but lines were non-existant after 10 or so. I did wait 30 minutes in line for a pic with Mickey and Minnie in their costumes!

Little Pixie, the same thing happened to us. We almost never take our camera with us and Saturday, as we entered the front gates, DH said "Should we have brought the camera?" (not that it mattered - the camera was 30 miles away at home!) DS ended up getting picked for Jedi Training Academy and absolutely loved it. I tried taking pics with my phone but half of them have the rope in the middle of the picture.

doesnt everyone have a camera on their phoens nowadays

Nope :) I don't have the extra money to splurge on a camera phone when my boring ole' regular phone works just fine. I do always have my camera with me, I think its attached to me, especially on a trip.

I learned to just keep snapping pictures when something big is happening.

At first I would snap a posed picture of the boys and a character, then put the camera away, and as the boys were walking away, either the character or one of the boys would do something totally cute, like blow a kiss, or run back for a hug. And sometimes the 'extra' shots are more sentimental than the posed one! Now that I've gone digital, I can afford to just keep snapping, then delete any I'm not interested afterwards. LOVE the new digital camera!

I also learned that if I want decent night shots, I'm going to need a tripod. No matter how still I'd hold, they still came out blurry. Some were less-so than others and were usable (particularly if there was a bright flash, like when flames shoot out of the castle turrets during the fireworks), but most were beautiful but too blurry to print. :(

Im really sorry you missed those moments. I know the feeling. I missed soooooo much when I went on my trip.

Just remember that you may not have gotten your sons reaction to the Jedi Traning thing on camea when he first found out, but im sure you must have gotten some picture of him while he was going through the process or just after. Those pictures will always remind him and you for that matter of the time he got chosen.

My biggest thing is that I LOVE THE PRINCESSES!!!! Im such a little girl at heart. When I was walking into Fantasyland I heard HOLD UP!!! I looked behind me and it was a 2 CM body guards with "Cinderella, Belle, Sleeping Beauty, and Snow white, and Prince Charming". They walked infront of the castle and stopped so we could take as many pics as we liked of them.

Of course I had my stupid camera in my bag, and was scrambling to find the damn thing, and when I did "OH BOY I GOT 2 REALLY BAD PICS".

After that I kept my camera tied to my wrist by the camera band. I didnt miss a thing after that. It really really helped. Things I did miss, or things I never got to take a picture of... I just keep telling myself that I am going back to recreate more memories.

I looooved meeting the princesses, too! We stood in line to meet a few that we hadn't met at the character breakfasts, and after looking at the line ahead and behind us, I realized we had the only boys! I felt guilty for a bit, wondering who I was really doing this for, them or me? But when it was our turn, the boys turned on the charm and so did the princesses!

Some of my favorite moments are when Ariel had to leave (we were at the front of the line), and we got to watch how it's handled; DS6 was fascinated with her revolving shell seat, and DS2 was fascinated with her shiny tailfin, which she unfurled as she reappeared. I loved watching my shy DS6 come out of his shell with Aurora as he answered her questions about himself. And both boys adored Cinderella, DS6 again having a very long conversation with her; both sons proudly showed off their lipstick-printed foreheads after Cinderella kissed them.

And Minnie! We first met her at Goofy's Kitchen, and she was so cute with DS2 when he was nervous at first. She picked up his sunglasses from the table, and gently placed them on his face. From then on they were pals. The second time we met her was 4 days later at the Lilo & Stitch breakfast. No idea if this was the same CM or not, but she gave DS2 the biggest hug, and wouldn't let him go! He was loving seeing her again, and her obvious delight at seeing him. She hugged and hugged and kissed, and hugged some more! He ate it up!!! Love that girl.

Yes, I used the camera on the phone, but I have a NICE camera and left it at home. The camera phone pictures don't do anything justice.... or at least ours doesn't.

The same things have happened to me.

DD was meeting Jack Sparrow, and she gave him a hug right at I was getting the camera ready. I heard everyone around go, "awwww", and my camera was not ready! :furious:

(I did ask her to do it again, but it didn't get the same reaction, obviously)

Its so amazing how well the characters interact with the children. They can make the children feel right at home. I agree with you that Cinderella was a doll. She and Belle are BY FAR the sweetest out of all the princesses.

I know exactly what you mean!! The same thing happened to me a few years ago.

Picture this: It's the end of the night, and everyone is making their way down main street to leave the park. I came out of a shop, and my brother was sitting on a bench near the entrance, with my two nieces (ages 5 & 6) laying on the bench asleep. Out of nowhere, Mickey comes tiptoeing up to them, leans down and gives each of them a goodnight kiss...meanwhile they are totally passed out. I just stood there with my mouth open, watching this precious moment. And when it was all over, I stood there frozen, asking myself: Why didn't I video tape that?!!?!? :confused3
