Why is gay marriage such a big issue?

How is it infringing on your rights? :confused3 You wouldn't be forced to marry someone of the same gender.

You are trying to push your views on us that think it's sinful. How is that not INFRINGING ON MY RIGHTS??!! I would LOVE to know!

You don't have to participate, that's why. If you don't agree with gay marriage then don't marry someone of the same gender.

Again, divorce is a sin, but it's allowed. Marrying someone who has been divorced or someone who has been divorced and remarries is a sin. Gluttony is a sin. Pride, sin. I could go on, as you know. How come these aren't all illegal and legislated?

Yes I am if it will get the gay community to shut up and get what they want.

Man, before I could step out of this thread, I see this. I had every intention of not posting until I read such an inflammatory comment.

You have just succeeded in pushing just about every DIS'er off the board for posting one of the most disgustingly nasty and idiotic comments I have ever had the misfortune of reading. You should be ashamed of yourself.

Yes but how can you sleep at night knowing you are pushing your views on us that think it is wrong?

I also live in Michigan and I voted this down as well. Marriage is between a man and a woman. We were made to be with the opposite sex. Not the same sex. I also do not believe you were born to be a certain way. We AGAIN were obviously made to be with the opposite sex. I believe you make a desicion whether or not to be gay or straight. Also, homosexuals do have the same rights as everyone else, they can marry someone from the opposite sex.

What is stopping a lesibian couple from finding a male gay couple and marrying each other so they can have all the same rights? Nothing! Maybe just a little inconveince. But that is it.

Wow...where to start??? I've never understood the "it's a choice" mentality. Homosexuals are, in my opinion, among the most discriminated. Why, on God's earth, would anyone wake up one day and think "Hey, it would be fun to be hated...I think I'll sign up!"????

You have the "right" to select and marry the person you love...homosexuals don't have that "right". I'm trying to think of an analogy that would make sense, but it eludes me right now. Maybe this....I don't know your religion, but let's say you have the "right" to pick between a Synagogue or a Mosque. You say "hey, I'm Christian, I want to go to a Church". NOPE, you have the same rights as everyone else...the right to choose between a Synagogue or a Mosque. Doesn't seem like much a "right" now, does it? What happens when the "right" doesn't fill the "need"?

As for the idea that two gay men should marry two gay women and deal the "inconvenience", it's just ridiculous. If you had to marry a woman (assuming you're a woman), would you consider that an "incovenience"? I doubt it.

Nobody's making you believe anything differently. Nobody will make your church marry gay people.

Let me give you an example of why I think your reasoning is so absurd. Eating meat is against my own beliefs, but I'm not pushing legislation to enforce vegetarianism on everyone in the country. And the fact that eating meat is legal doesn't infringe on my beliefs at all. I'm still free to believe what I want and encourage others to be vegetarian too.

It isn't a matter of common sense. There is nothing "common" about "sense". Sense is always a matter of personal opinion; there is no absolute truth. And that's really the crux of the problem, because the reason for the controversy is power; specifically one group's effort to exert power over another, in the interest of dictating for everyone what a personal committment between two people should be allowed to be. Their interest is in having the secular definition of the institution match their own religious definition, rather than recognizing that reasonable people disagree about matters of belief, such as this. They resist the idea of granting people, other than themselves, the right to live in accordance with their own beliefs on matters such as this.

I don't always agree with Mr. Bicker but he is OH so right
