Why is DQ closing?

I haven't seen any news of this on the major Disney fansites, is this confirmed? Even a rumor? Given the capital investment in DQ and its popularity, I can't see it closing for good anytime soon.

2008, right after the Winter Holidays, Christmas, New Years, is when it is reportedly suppose to close. I wish it won't I love DQ!

There was recently a local commercial showing some new things added to DQ. I can't imagine they'd be upgrading it if it were closing.

I've not seen anything on the local news about this or heard anything from the folks I know who work for Disney.

As far as I know, DQ closing has NOT been confirmed by Disney.

I hope its just a bad rumor.. I know they had one in another city that didnt do well and it closed but this one seems to do well, I know my family loves it..The Jungle Cruise Ride and virtual POTC alone are worth going for..

I agree...We've been going to WDW for a while now and we just went to DQ for the first time our last trip. My kids loved it! My husband and I enjoyed playing the old 80's video games. I hope it doesn't close. It was the main reason we decided to go with the premium APs. We just don't go to the water parks enough to justify the extra cost of the APs. But on our Xmas trips, DQ is a nice warm place to hang out and have fun in the evenings.

IMHO this place was great in 1999-2000, but the attractions are very outdated now. It's time to either keep with the tradition of Walt and staying ahead of the curve, or it's time to close. The last time I was here (2004), the place was in very poor condition. Many rides were down, it was dirty, and there was nothing new.

I loved it at one time, but at the rate it was going I say good riddence.

Here is something Jim Hill had on his website.

Not confirmed, but an interesting read.

That's the only place I've ever seen it written about and that was nearly three months ago. Again, as cpbjgc said, no official word from Disney.

We did DQ back in 2000 and enjoyed it. My son was just shy of 3 at the time so he was too young. Maybe next summer we will have to try it again now that he is 8 (would be 9 then).

The only things we enjoyed were the pirates game and the elevator ride up from the entrance.Wouldn't go again.Found it a bit grubby when we were there-not disneylake at all.

Sadly I think that's been Disney's plan, to not keep up old attractions, so people eventually just decide they don't care anymore, so Disney can go ahead and replace it with whatever new cheap idea they come up with.

I hope Im wrong in this case.

That would make my Tattoo quite obsolete and unique! Cool! :thumbsup2

My boys like DQ - but I was always rather ....bored.

Anyone else thought DQ was "Dairy Queen"? That was my first thought... I guess I was hungry!!! :rotfl2:

Actually, I also thought of Dairy Queen because tonight some little old lady just backed into my brand new car while I was driving out!! Ouch!!

I have 3 family members that work for WDW. All 3 have said DQ will close down. Take it for what it is worth. No dates given to me, or if they did say I forgot. Next time I talk to one of them I will see if I can get more info.

Sadly, I agree with this post. We've been to DQ twice over the years and felt the price rather steep, we used AP's to attend but the place was always too packed and waiting for games or attractions made for a long day and after about an hour, we've had enough. Great idea, alot of virtual stuff in there, great cheese cake but no some place to warrant 30 some bucks to get in, really liked the old setting of PI, with the Fireworks Factory resturant and atmosphere but thats run its course too and we never attend to PI either in the evenings. We do the early stroll from DTD through PI to Disney Westside and might catch a flick at the AMC but its mostly a shoping spree, walk and back to the resort deal for us.

IF DQ closes, that is going to make for one cranky son and hubby. They both love this place and go at least twice each trip. I can stand it for a couple of hours. Then I go shopping, they play games, and everyone is happy! :guilty:
