CBR is my favorite mod (and I have stayed at all of them). Here is what lead me to put this resort in my #1 moderate spot!
Large rooms. I had already stayed at all the values and all the other mods when we stayed at CBR for nine nights in December of 2006. Up to that point, I really hadn't found any difference in room size, I didn't really even think our rooms at POR, POFQ or CSR felt that much bigger than our value rooms. I liked the larger bathroom/vanity set up but that was the only area I felt like "oh this is a lot larger than the values". For some reason the CBR room has just enough more space than the values and the other mods to make me feel like, yeah this is more spacious. We never felt crowded as a family of four in that room.
Theming: I love the tropical, Caribbean theming. I loved the charming, brightly colored buildings from the various "islands". I just loved to walk around that resort and take it all in. This is the one resort I have stayed at below the DVC level where I could see myself not going to the parks at all and still having a marvelous time. It just lends itself to relaxing and escape.
Quiet pools: The one weak link at CBR was their too small main pool. It was still very nice and now that they are refurbbing the main pool it will be even better. However, the quiet pools at CBR are the best I have seen on the moderate level and even the quiet pools at the DVC resorts I have stayed at are not this large. We loved going over the pool in Martinique and hanging out. It was very large and we spent a ton of time there during our stay.
I love the location of CBR, its very centrally located within the whole WDW complex which is nice. And I loved it that we had such nice views of Illuminations around the resort. Frankly, we had a nicer view of the high up fireworks of Epcot at CBR than we did at Boardwalk which surprised me. My favorite vantage point for that was on the bridge that connects Old Port Royale with Aruba and Jamaica. We could even hear the music faintly. Nothing beats seeing them in the park but its also nice to have the option of seeing some sort of fireworks from your resort.
Loved the lake area, it was so nice to stroll around, enjoy a hammock and just relax. The landscaping is lush perfectly maintained. The whole resort is so pretty, lush, charming and relaxing.
And last but not least, we had wonderful customer service from the cm's at CBR. I have pretty much lucked out in that area at all my Disney resort stays with a few minor exceptions. But at CBR our experience from the time we checked in at the Custom House to the time we left via Magical Express and spent a few nice minutes chatting with a couple of bellman (this was at 4:00 a.m.) we found the cm's to be willing to go the extra mile to be helpful, friendly and super courteous. We also had the best bus service at CBR we had to date in 8 trips to WDW. And the resort is vast and you do have multiple stops. However, the buses came frequently and the worst thing that happens is that you might spend an extra five minutes a day on the bus as it travels the resort picking up and dropping off. And I liked that because driving through the resort was very enjoyable and that way I got to see all areas of it. I would rather drive around CBR on a bus then going to other resorts which takes way longer than any route you might have at CBR.
CBR actually has a lot of fans. And once they get that new pool done, I think you'll see even more in the way of fan base! I really hardly ever see any negative reviews of CBR anymore, and when I do its generally from a stay quite awhile back.
Okay, now I need to think about upgrading from Music to CBR for our trip in April, reading these threads kill me and make me a planning nut!
