Why is America out of work?

My first instinct was a troll feigning illiteracy, but I stand corrected after a quick review of their posting history.

As an aside, someone has mentioned not being able to get a job at McDonld's because it was thought s/he would leave if something better came along.

I would hope so! If McDonald's is hiring entry level staff with the hope that they are going to be permanent, then we've got a pretty big problem. LOL.

McDonald's is one of the largest employers of part time help, and surely does not expect long term retention from front line entry level staff.

Put America to work first? Well, along with many others here, I'm not sure how you are determining that those on the road crews are not American. Do you mean citizens of the United States of America? How would you know if they were or were not?

Even presuming they are not citizens, why shouldn't they be able to work? Someone should have a job over another person solely because they are "American?" What does that really mean?

If you need a job, I'm afraid you are going to have to do what the majority of us had to do fresh out of college, university, or high school... hunt one down!

It's often a long and frustrating process, and quite often (not always, granted) a new graduate will have to take a position for less salary or wages than s/he had hoped for. It's called "a start," "entry level" and you do it.

I accepted my first position out of uni for an extremely low salary, but took the position to get started, and because the experience had real value. I moved fast in that particular agency, leaving the entry level position after only three months...

Regardless, work hard at finding a job. Dress with extreme care, and yes, be certain that you are using a form of spoken and written communication that supports your level of education.

Good luck to you.

Fair enough.I treat the DisBoards as A text.I type fast and I am so glad you can point out this.:sad2:

Any job I can get now I would put 110% into it.There is A problem with PEOPLE like you that has tooto put every comma, cross youreyour t's and dot youreyour I's to make youreselfyourself look perfect.

And tooto top that,I think youreyour knowledge of the past is just that, the past. It's time to put American'sAmericans=no apostrophe back to work!

Troll. Your lousy grammar/spelling and political post are deliberate attempts at pot stirring. Obviously, you are trying to imply that people who complain about non-citizens having jobs in the U.S. while unemployment is in double digits are less intelligent-- when it is actually just common sense.

That's not even intelligent irony. Try again.

what in your college education will help you in road construction? college is not always the answer to getting hiring. my wife thinks that if my son graduates from a community college that he will get a good job, not true for a lot of people. so my son left college and he start tomorrow where i work. i even have a thread about this. he has to start off low 13 dollars and hour for a month than 14 dollars for 5 months. than 16 for a year than 20 for a year. than once he has been there for 2 and a half years he will go up to base rate which is 24.62 right now, will be higher than that with the pay raises. so college is not always the answer for some people.

.

Also wanted to point out in the construction biz and house building biz here-the dependable, hard working people are the Mexican Immigrants .

DH works with lots of contractors who say , in this hard work enviroment, the young black men dont apply, the young white men tend to not show up to work-so most of the crews for these industries have become all Mexicans-because of their work ethic.

Yeap, this kinda tells me that someone was thinkin' the boards were gettin' a bit on the boring side, and decided to liven things up with a trollish post. Which, to my spelling-Nazi brain, was actually painful to read. Well done, OP! :thumbsup2

This isn't just A few typos.

Exactly. They are errors that bug the heck out of people who have been to college and proof read. Texting is supposed to make the sentances you type shorter...adding apostrophes is adding to what she needs to type. My guess is if you are writing that casually, even on a message board, and aren't bothered by even looking at it there are probably mistakes you are missing on your cover letter and resume.

As for McDonalds hiring long term, they might not want an employee to stay a decade but they'd like them to stay a year or two. And they want people with no experience so they don't bring bad or different habits with them, they want a clean slate. You should try Starbucks if you want to go for the over educated for fast food route.

Now THAT is racism.

OT, but not all online university programs produce illiterates.

I noticed all that, but was ignoring it; I just assumed the writing style was due to the informality of Internet forums, and NOT representative of how the OP normally presents himself or herself.

Well, the word "collage" sorta jumped out at me, but I don't even have a 4 year degree. In other words, I felt I had no right to say anything.

I am not trying to be mean, I swear it, but if you need writing skills, grammar and just a basic knowledge of the english language to get a job, you best sit this one out.

I'm sorry too OP, but you are just digging yourself in deeper. I mean, I understand the whole "internet lingo' stuff, but using the word "too" when it should be "to"? I'm not trying to be mean, but the more you write, the worse it gets for you. I'm sorry.

To be fair, a problem I have run into is that there aren't many places willing to hire "entry level" employees these days. All I see around are companies demaning 5-10 years of experience and no one willing to take entry level. Which leaves people in a bad spot because they are not able to find the experience they need to get better jobs as no one want to give it to them.

After a certain point it get REALLY frustrating looking for entry level work that doesn't exist. Which is why my jobs the past few years have been substitute teaching, secretaty at H&R Block, etc. Is this what I want to be doing? No. But I have yet to find any sort of entry level jobs anywhere in town that pertain to my chosen field, so I'm doing this kind of work while I look. I can just say from my experiences in the job market, that sometimes it is really hard to find even that entry level position for your field.

Thanks for insulting those of us getting a legitimate education with only degree programs. I had an ex-boyfriend who has a degree from a brick and mortar school and he has the same writing skills of the OP.

.......typos happen to the best of us. and i don't post on the DIS in the style of a resume, either.

i'm not saying i agree or disagree with the OP, but really....this comment just seemed a bit rude.

There's a HUGE difference between the occaisonal typographical error, and typing in text style as the OP admits doing because this is an Internet forum.

This ISN'T a texting situation; there's really no valid reason to type the same way one texts. It makes more sense to make every effort to use correct grammar, vocabulary, and punctuation ANY time the situation makes that possible. These will all become second nature, so one's resume and cover letter (and follow-up thank you note, should one or more interviews be granted) will demonstrate effort and sincerity.

This not politcal and not racist at all mods,so please listen.

Why is it that all the road work done lately is from peeps that don't even speak english.I have A collage education, and these companys will not even give me A interview for employment!!!:confused3

I know I will be giving points and not be able to post if the mods see it the wrong way.I just want too say,put American's to work first!!!!!:confused3

Oh goodness. There is a lot I'd like to say, but I'll just say this: saying something isn't political and racist doesn't make it so.
