This is really more of a vent than anything....

My daughter, 14, needed new clothes. I walked into Abercrombie AND Hollister and I thought I was going to DIE! Why do those stores have to turn up the music so loud? It made me want to make a mad dash to get what I needed and leave. Not the nice, relaxing shopping trip I was expecting.

What do you guys think? Are there any stores in particular that just drive you NUTS?!

...that's to render you senseless so you don't feel the full effect of paying those EXORBITANT PRICES....well, that and to remind you that, if you think it's too loud, you are too old to be shopping in that store! :teeth:

All the teen stores are like this. I HATE it. I can't believe OSHA hasn't cracked down on the volume there. I have told the kids that they will NEVER work there. Those poor salespeople are all going to lose their hearing. I won't go in there any more.

My theory is that its because they know that their prices are over inflated for the quality but kids drag their parents in there and we'll agree to buy them anything just to get the heck out of there. Why do you think they put the clearance all the way in the back, they know us old folk won't be able to take the loud music (or the potent perfume) long enough to make it back there

...Hollister is the same way....you can't even hear yourself THINK.

I wonder the same thing, that's why I rarely go in there! At the kohls by my house in the juniors section they have the music turned up so loud (just like hollister) and it drives me insane! I don't need a migraine while i'm shopping!!

Even worse is the stench. It is so thick it's disgusting! Luckily my DD has outgrown those stores. Unfortunately DS is just started to get interested in them. :sad2:

::yes::

It also reeks of their perfume. Makes me feel really sick.

I can get past the music better than I can the stench. They must spray a whole bottle of that nasty perfume/calogne every 15 minutes. Yuck!

...why not? It just 'adds' to the experience....:lmao:

CONFUCIUS SAY: Invest in good clothespin...and earplugs :teeth:

To me it's not the noise so much, but the smells. They spray their scents so liberally it's crazy.

Reminds me of that Seinfeld episode where Jerry's dad tells them that cheap fabric and dim lighting is what sells merchandise.

And if the music isn't enough, the overwhelming smell of perfumes will surely render you senseless by killing brain cells.

Hollister is the worst for loud music. I tell my daughter that they're nuts for playing their music that loud. The parents have the money yet they are driving them out of the store.

We were at Abercrombie one day and a young man was working there. My husband asked him how he could stand the smell of the perfume all day. He said the perfume comes down from the ceiling (scent sprayers). :scared1: It took him awhile to get used to it. FWIW, my daughter thinks it smells great. :lmao:

Worse than the music is the smell. OMG those clothes have to be washed several times before they can be worn. They stink!

So you grab your stuff quick and pay whatever they ask so you can get out of there. I hated shopping at any store that had loud music when I was younger too. I am buying pants not dancing in a nightclub!
