Why in the world , would WDW close down SPLASH Mt during EMH?

For the first time in my life I may call WDW and complain. Who do we call. We all need to do a mass email and call them. This is just crazy, I hope someone can explain why WDW decided to close down one of the most popular rides in ALL of WDW during EMH. Who is the brains behind this?

Surprisingly enough, I'm not upset about this. I'm a huge fan of EMH during peak seasons, but rarely find myself going on SM during it. I don't recall ever seeing a large amount of people on the attraction at night either. If that is, in fact, the case, I don't think it's a bad move, but can understand your disappointment. I've been there before when Disney makes a change. It can be frustrating.

I'm one of the folks who has never ridden it during EMH so I won't miss it.

I'm guessing it gets limited ridership in the winter months at night.
In addition, it breaks down frequently and takes nearly 20 mins to be reset; this is a capacity killer during EMH (my 6-year-old and I were stuck 4 logs from the end during evening EMH in June).

However - it now means the attraction will not be open during any extra magic hours session, since Frontierland is not open for morning EMH.

When I took my nephew in 2010 he had never ridden Splash Mt. and since the lines were too long during the day, we went during an evening EMH...there was literally no one but us riding. We rode, got on and off 4 times and only saw 4 other guests the whole time. It was weird, but really cool. Twice the ride operator just let us ride again and not get off. I was very wet we were done, but it was a blast. From that experience though I'm guessing this is why they are doing it, I agree it stinks and I do not see how Tiki Birds is a good/fair replacement.

I was wondering the same thing. Why close one of your E-Ticket attractions during EMH? The only thing I could come up with is they are trying to do their yearly maintenance after the park closes to the regular public. Splash usually goes down for 3 weeks in Jan for a yearly maintenance so maybe they are just trying to address the maintenance needs without a lengthy refurb in January.

Why would they do it? I suspect the answer is simple. Money.

If they can close Splash they save a lot of money on energy costs (imagine the number of lights and pumps in there) and some on salaries.

I'm ambivalent about this, even though it's my favorite ride at WDW. We don't typically do EMH's and still have small children so it won't be missed by us.

BUT....

I wish Disney would be transparent about it. Just come out and say "due to maintenance work" or "due to energy costs" or "due to WHATEVER!"

I just don't like it when they make a blanket decision that they KNOW will disappoint lots of people (Hello Lights of Winter!) and not be forthcoming with all the details about WHY.

I was thinking the exact same thing. Why would you shut down an e ticket ride during EMH. Money may be the reason, or the amount of people riding it in the winter months. Maybe they will add in back on in the summer. We are seriously thinking of staying off site our next trip. What we can get for our money is much better off site. Disney is making to many changes all at once. It is just crazy.

One of the things DW and I liked most about PM EMH was riding Splash Mountain because it was always empty. We could bank on riding it twice in a row without getting off within the last our of EMH. We will miss that......although I am sure that's why it will be closed now.

Add me to the group of people who have ridden it several times in a row during EMH because nobody else was waiting in line. So, to me, closing up a ride that costing a lot of money and maintenance for only a handful of riders, during EMH, makes a little sense. Frustrating, yes. But also understandable.

And replacing it with Tiki is just a slap in the face! Ok, I know there are Tiki lovers out there, but it's just not a very busy attraction to warrant keeping it open during EMH. If money is truly the only factor, it does makes sense since it only needs minimal staffing. And I suppose the fact that it is indoors is a benefit to guests on a chilly winter night. But, this disappoints me.

EMH is the only time we ride Splash Mountain so this is really disappointing to me. I hope that they are actually performing maintenance during this time because there are always plenty of features that aren't working when we do ride it.

I'm thinking something along the lines of this.

PLUS... Think about all the complaints we've heard this year about the ride effects not working or the general run-down appearance of the ride, and remember that it did not go down for it's annual maintenance this year n January because Big Thunder was down for the beginning of it's long refurb and they didn't want both mountains down at the same time.....

So it makes sense that maybe during the slower winter months they've decided to take the ride out of EMH rotation to allow them more time to repair those things that have started to impact the ride due to the extended period without a major maintenance period.



(I also wouldn't discount $$ being a factor since they can run both the Tiki Room and Country Bears on probably less than 1/2 the staff they need to run Splash since the show's don't have the same type of ride safety/video monitoring control room staffing needs as the ride.)

This is awful. I often ride Splash during EMH and have seen lines there during that time even in September. I hope this is a temporary thing for the fall and winter.

The ride is simply worn down and needs time to "rest" at night. It is the same reason the monorail hours were cut back and Jungle Cruise is not part of EMH. There are several times everyday when Splash is down for technical difficulties. With the change, the Splash will hopefully go down less during the day which will make guests happier and lines shorter. One of the main reasons the lines are constantly long is because the ride is constantly down so there is an overflow of fastpass and standby once the ride comes back up.
