Why has the World Showcase not been developed more?

Just curious. It seems like a new country or new attractions could really spice up the WS. Is there any specific reason why a new country hasn't been added? Or why the countries that are there which don't have bigger attractions haven't added some rides or shows or films?

Just curious. I adore Epcot, just thinking that the WS could use some excitement.

Hey, I think this is a good question. I love the WS but would like to see some new additions. The individual countries sponsor the attractions don't they? If Charlotte NC can afford a partial light rail system that costs many millions of dollars I would imagine that an updated tourism advertisment experienced by millions of people would be a drop in the bucket for these countries.

With the exception of Morocco and China, all the WS countires are actually sponsored by commercial firms or consortiums. What is needed is either a group or a country to front up the money to design and construct the pavilion, incliding shops, restaurants and attractions.

If the City of Charlotte (or even with the surrounding counties involved) paid more than 10% of the cost I would be very surprised. More than likely at least 90% was from Federal Mass Transit Funds and a lot more from the State.

I know that Expedition Everest cost more than $MM100; If you wanted a pavilion whith an attraction, shops and eateries you are probably talking at lest $MM50. Not many companies or National Tourism budgets can handle that (as well as ongoing charges).

How much is $MM100?
I'm afraid I don't understand the abbreviation

Thanks
Shelly

That tends to be an abbreviation for Million dollars, it is easier than typing $100,000,000.00

I've thought for years that they could have a country where they have the African-themed gift shop.

Hmm..I think that maybe they should develop Canada a little more...it seems like it has a whole lotta room in it's pavilion and it isn't being used. But, like all you guys have been saying, the money is a problem. I think that after AK is a little more developed (which it has become due to E:E), that it would be wise to fix up Canada. That's just my opinion!

Money is one of the problems. Another problem is the representation of that country at Disney World. Disney World wants the countries to be as authentic as possible and work in cooperation with officials from the country. It takes a lot to make both sides comfortable with the result. And even then, citizens of that country will complain. We even gripe about the fact there's no table service restaurant in America. Disney World in this situation isn't just Disney World. They are representing America as well. Fine line to toe.

I would love to see an Australia pavillion....I've always wanted to go there and there is so much they could pull from.

Wouldn't a Russian pavilion be cool? Egypt? I can picture a sphynx replica... Or something from South America? I would love Australia, too.

Same reason why some of the aspects of Future World "go dark", too - not enough money from sponsorship. We used to love the AT&T stuff at the end of Spaceship Earth, but it's been gone for a while...

They should take Africa out and put a different country in that spot. Africa is represented way better in AK.

::yes:: I think Austrailia or an Asian country, like India, should be represented.

I would love to see either Australia - they could have a big Ularoo and Sydney harbour bridge and opera house replica. Or Eygpt with a huge pyramid and sphynx.
But seen as the countries themselves have to sponsor them I doubt it will happen any time soon, if at all.

50, or 500, CF??

It would be nice to see WS expand.

I don't like change, but in this case I think that squeesing in another pavilion is a good idea. Australia or Egypt are my top two choices.
