Why Don't We Sit for Parades/Fireworks?

I find it odd that in your first post it completely slipped your mind that you did in fact sit at DL.
Why bring it up in the first post when in a later post you mention that you could sit at DL?

Sure sitting would be more enjoyable unless of course a kids hand gets stepped on by someone trying to pass through the sea of people in the dark or you trip on a dang towel!
At least if people are asked to stand its easier for those trying to move throughout the park to do so.

If they want people to sit then they should provide more seating or create an area specifically for it like there are at many amusement parks I've been to.

I wouldn't say it slipped my mind... I would say I chose not to address it since it was not the norm and were isolated circumstances.

I agree sitting on hard concrete is a factor and another is that some can't sit flat (without your legs lower). It has seemed that there are less and less benches available. I used to pull up my grandmother's wheelchair next to benches as a kid everywhere and someone could sit with her to people watch while we did the more intense rides. Now I find I'm searching for a spot to sit and eat a snack. Give me 10 more years and I'll have to start taking a scooter so I have an option to sit for camping out for things.

Actually, at DLR it very much depends on the show. Some shows you are required to stand, like World of Color. They will not allow you to continue to sit, and generally get everybody up and move them forward well before the show. As faras I know they will not allow it for the fireworks either.

For parades you can sit on the curb and within the tape, though if you are toward the back, it won't be practical. Fantasmic! is seated within the proper viewing areas. If you are too far down front though you are watching through the railing.

Yes I'm aware at WOC they require you to stand.
I was more talking about the fireowrks at Disneyland Park.
So many people were just sitting in random spots with towels.
And in the area outside of the parks between the park entrances its just a sea of people sitting/standing/people trying to walk through.
Not cool wish they wouldn't allow that or if they want to allow it then have a roped area for it not just where ever you feel like it.

Disneyland only allows sitting during shows in these instances:

Fantastic if you are in the front sections that are for the Dining Packages

The curb or very front row on the parade route

The very closest section to Sleeping Beauty Castle during the fireworks. There is a roped off area in the castle forefront. You can sit there. Everything behind that rope, you can sit while waiting for the fireworks, but 5 min before, CMs force everyone to stand up and move forward as much as they can.

Obviously, you can sit if you are in a section of World of Color or the parade route that is reserved seating for Dining Package or Dessert Party guests.

This has been my experience. I have never seen anyone sitting for the fireworks, especially in the Esplanade. The CM's have always made everyone stand. With parades, it kind of depends where you are, but they will let you sit.

We took our friends' teen daughters on a trip in February during a time when the economy was a bit slow and it was cold that year in Orlando. We had plenty of space for the girls to lay down with their heads propped on their bags to watch the fireworks one weekday night. They said it was the best ever. Of course, that was Wishes. I'm not excited about the fireworks now. Both MK and Epcot have cut back so much on the actual number of shells they use during a show that it's not spectacular anymore.

I have previously related a story last year where a group of people were sitting in the Casey's grass area before HEA and became upset when we came in and were standing... told them more people are going to come in here and everyone is going to stand when the fireworks start, which is what happened. Tempers got high and was nearing violence. Problem is differing expectations... Disney needs to make a clear policy of what is expected to avoid situations like that.
