Why doesn't Dumbo have a fastpass?

Dumbo = nightmare

Does anyone know what would prevent them from putting FP at this attraction? It seems to be a worthy candidate.

Seems like it would be difficult to coordinate, because I think there are only 16 or so elephants. Just the way the ride functions: load, spin, stop, unload, repeat, I don't know how they could guarantee a fast pass time or even coordinate it with a stand by line.

I agree though...it's a long line, even during EMH time. I waited 30 minutes with our six month DD and she fell asleep by the time we got into an elephant. Not that she'll remember that trip anyway. :teeth:

Amy :)

I always dread that line, but it's another "must do" for our family!

I think they could work out the timing just like they did with every other ride. I know the FastPasses would go early but they should at least give some keener people a chance to forgo the nightmare.

The ONLY way we will ride Dumbo, is first thing on an early entry. Even my 6 Y.O. hates the line, and it is her ALL TIME fave ride.

It's a bummer to us, that there is only one EE the weeek we are there. Has anybody had experience with Late hours at MK- How is Dumbo then? Is It open?

TIA

Dumbo is open, but Fantasy land seems to keep drawing the most crowds right until the end.

We just got back and did the EMH at night at the MK. Unfortunately, we still didn't ride Dumbo because the wait was 40 minutes right up until the end. We used a FastPass for Peter Pan and the rest of the rides were walk-ons. We went to Philharmagic two times in a row with no wait. I love Dumbo but not enough to stand in line for 40 minutes. :guilty: Maybe you would have better luck with the morning EMH if you went straight to Dumbo first?

It is pretty obvious that Fastpass wouldn't work on Dumbo. The ride has limited capacity and if you think the standby line is long now, think about what it would be like if Fastpass were there.

It would end up being one line anyway, either Fastpass or Standby. If you had Fastpass availability then everyone would have to get it in order to get on at all. Once that happens you are back where you started.

Fastpass is evil no matter what ride it is used in conjunction with but with one like Dumbo...Yikes!!!

That is what we always have done. This trip, though, there is only 1 early EMH for our trip.

The most dreaded line----has been skipped on the last two trips because of 45/1 hour wait. . . .we will try the EMH and see what happeds. . . .

Doesn't the Aladdin carpet ride use a fastpass?? Im not sure but I think they do. Anyway this ride is just like dumbo you go up and down so how can they use it on this ride but not Dumbo???

I beg to differ. Fastpass is nice and good and a godsend. I only regret they hadn't invented it sooner.

I do not recall there being a Fastpass for Aladdin's Carpets.

I am estimating that just under 10,000 people can ride Dumbo on any given day.

Figure 16 elephants each carrying two people is 32 people per ride cycle (per ride).
Figure 90 seconds in the air and 90 seconds loading. That is three minutes per ride or 20 rides per hour. Times 32 people per ride equals 640 people per hour. If the park is open 8 AM until 11 PM that is 15 hours. Times 640 people per hour equals 9,600 people that day.

we go in jan/ feb usually and the queues are really short....
dreading this year tho going may....hope lines are not too long...

We always pick one of our mornings that we spend at the MK for Dumbo day. Usually our first visit. We hightail it from the front gates, straight to Dumbo. Even then we usually have to wait about 10 minutes, but that's my Dumbo limit. This is the one and only time we ride during our trip. We have never done an early entry day, but it would be the same thing.

One of the best times to ride Dumbo is during Wishes. The ride still runs through most of the show.

Sorry,

Magic Carpets do not have fastpass. It's a line just like Dumbo and normally just as long.

Last trip Dumbo was 60 minutes and Magic Carpets were 15 minutes. Guess which one we took our BIL's kids on?

I guess I missed the obvious then....and still do. I hear what you're saying but don't fully understand it. "If you had Fastpass availability then everyone would have to get it in order to get on at all." I think this is the part tripping me up. Why? Fastpasses aren't unlimited. I'm not attacking you or anything, I'm just a little slow and need this better explained.

You don't have to go on an EMH morning to ride Dumbo. You can do it any day, first thing in the morning. There is no more than a 10-15 minute wait If you arrive later and still want to ride Dumbo, you can limit the amount of time that your child stands in line by having one adult stand in line while the kid(s) do other things. The kids can be passed in when the line adult is on the last loop before going up the ramp. This is a variation on the "Bubba Swap" from the Unofficial Guide to WDW. As long as your family only takes up one Dumbo you don't effect the line.

Sometimes Dumbo is crowded at night and sometimes it isn't. I think EHM nights would be more crowded since families plan on staying out late. Most nights families with young children will go home after Wishes. We rode Dumbo the week before Christmas (very busy) at 11:00pm with no wait.

If you want to ride Dumbo, then it becomes your number one priority, first thing in the morning as soon as the park opens ride. This works whether it is EMH or a regular morning. When DD and DS were little, we always walked very quickly to Dumbo, rode it first and then did the rest of Fantasyland, we have never waited over 15 minutes to ride Dumbo doing that. Now that the kids are older, they usually pass on Dumbo (because of the wait) but know that it has to be done before the mountains if they want to ride it.
