Why doesn't DL's Peter Pan have FP?

This question has been bothering me since our visit 2 weeks ago. We spent 2 weeks touring the West Coast and just returned. During our travels, we spent 2 days at DL.

Both days at DL, Peter Pan's Flight line NEVER dropped below 45 minutes!! By the time we waited for this ride (first thing in the morning, mind you!), we walked over to Mr. Toad's Wild Ride and waited another 40 minutes!!

Why don't these Fantasyland rides have any FPs? Our strategy at Disney World is to FP Peter Pan, so that we can enjoy the other slow-riding rides in Fantasyland. This time, we couldn't even finish all the attractions we wanted to do in 2 days.

Is there any sort of reason? Like I said, this has been driving me crazy since!

Rides have to meet certain criteria for FP - it's based on the # of passengers per hour and some other stuff, I think, and I'm sure that Peter Pan doesn't meet the criteria. Also, in order for them to do FP, they would have to completely re-work the queue, which probably isn't worth it to them.

The reason for none of the FL rides have FP is that they (and the lines) were not designed to be used for FP. Think about it. There is no space for FP machines or another FP return line around the Peter Pan attraction. Also I highly doubt the lines for Peter Pan and Mr. Toad were 40 and 45 minutes respectively, if they were your first and second rides of the day, unless it was an Early Entry day, in which I would completely avoid Fantasyland first thing.

I went in on Friday morning, was there at 8:15. park opened at 9- at 9:20 Peter Pan was already 30 mins long... it is the first to fill up.

For one, DL doesnt have room to do fastpasses.

also, if you noticed, most of the FP lines are for high volume rides. Things that can load quick and unload quick.

Actually how long peak waits in stand by would be dependent upon how many fast passes are given out for each return time, and what the mix ratio is among other factors. And the empirical evidence from WDW indicates that PP can be run quite successfully with fast pass without 1.5 hour waits in stand by on an average day or even a fairly busy one. Days like Xmas overwhelm it, but they also overwhelm everything else too.

The ultimate answer comes down to this. DL brass doesn't want em there. And in general, they are not as keen on fast pass as is WDW brass.

My kids were 9 and 14 last year so we did PP only a couple of times, we went in on EE day and FL was crowded, we did PP (20 min wait), and Alice (10 min wait) and went shopping! We went in right on opening on a non EE day and there were no queues, we rode PP with no wait then did all other rides inside an hour. We were there in late June/early July so park opened at 8am (non EE day) and we got to the gates dead on 8am and went straight to FL, I think it was an AP blackout day, we found DL much quieter first thing on AP blackout days.

DH and I have been at the end of the line where the sign said 45 minute wait from here and it only took us 25 minutets to get on. The line is deceiving.

Peter Pan at DL doesn't have FP because of it's low capacity per vehicle and because of it's low thru-put per hour.

The above is true. With FP, the long stand-by line would be even longer.


Some attractions don't need Fast Pass.
The Fantasyland rides don't because of their very low capacity and their very low thru-put per hour... on one side of the spectrum.

The Haunted Mansion and Pirates don't because of the high capacity and their very high thru-put per hour... on the other side of the spectrum.

DL has kept some FP machines to balance out the non-FL attractions, the recently removed FP machines, the seldom used FP machines and the seasonal-only FP machines.

More FP machines open = more DL CM's necessary.
If DL wants to cut labor costs or has further scheduling issues, less FP machines will be open. Which is good if no FPs available leaves shorter stand by lines. Which quite often it does.


From some reports from people last year, It's a Small World Holiday (with no FP machines that year) and Haunted Mansion Holiday (sparingly using theirs based on each days crowd) the post first day waits at both attractions were much shorter for the stand-by lines wll winter, without each attraction using FP last year, ot not much in the case of HMH.

TDA has been testing different FP attractions on-season and off-season the last few years.

Tis why Star Tours, Pooh, Muppets, Pirates and It's Tough to Be a Bug all had their FP machines completely removed and the machines didn't return for It's a Small World Hoiday... and why Big Thunder and Roger Rabbit FP machines are turned off quite a bit offseason.

FP works on some attractions... it makes the stand by brutally long and move painfully slow on other attractions. And Peter Pan with it's 1 row of seating... and mostly 1 and 2 riders, rarely 3 per... doesn't have the capacity or the thru-put to not make the stand by line Nemo-like.


If Nemo had FP... the 3-4 hr stand-by line would be longer.. much longer.


One poster on MP said on the day she visited last week Nemo was listed at 90 mins wait... at park opening.
EE had filled the queue.
