Yes, it is that small. If you have more than one kid and have to pack it for a trip I can see having to sit cross legged on top of stuff. I think that is what she is talking about rather than day to day clutter. I drive an '05 Kia Spectra, so I can totally get that. We have only Me, DH and DD6 and are still stuffed to the gills traveling anywhere in it. We too are considering a "new" used car, but i want to wait another year if possible so that we can put more down on it.
Aha.
Good luck on the new to you car! I highly recommend having as much down on it as possible...it's funny, I was fine leasing for 12 years, but for some reason, owing more than a car is worth for over 2 years, when it was USED to begin with, has just chapped my hide!
I have to say that I am pretty offended by this response. I came on here for budget reasons, not so someone could tell me to keep my car clean.
I'm probably offended because you don't know me at all, if you did you would know that I am a neat freak and my car is almost always very clean with no clutter.
I'm sorry I said it wrong. I certainly wasn't telling you to keep your car clean; I was just concerned about that ONE reason for buying a new car. I've been over on the llnoe.com forums, and perhaps got too used to the plain and blunt way of speaking about big purchases and the reasons used for them, and I was worried about that one reason for your sake, especially b/c you were feeling sick about this purchase.
The Escape has always looked relatively big to me; all SUVs look big to me, so it was odd to me that an SUV would be too small. Of course, the reality is that our own stupid car with its massive trunk and long hood is longer than the SUVs in our parking lot. And I forget that SUVs tend to have that hatch in back instead of a big ol' trunk that you can pack to the rafters.
But when someone is talking about "crap" in their car and that they can't put their feet down, without explaining that this was for a trip and it was gear on the floor, I'm not sure it's fair to assign mean intent to a person trying to help. I read the first post and you said "can't go to MIL's house without..." I didn't realize that MIL's house was a big trip that you would pack for. I thought you were saying that it was full like that on a day to day basis, and that there was maybe some exaggeration going on. Could have gone either way; I picked wrong.
I just got confused by the word "crap" to mean "things we've packed for a big trip". I'll try to explain things better in the future...I've been sick and I thought I was clearer-headed when I replied, but I guess not. And I'm sorry for it.
