Why does it cost more to fly on a Friday?

I just revised my SWA ressies and it is $54.88 the way down and $87.44 for the way home.. If I left a day earlier it would be $54.88 and the same if I leave on Sat. Why is it more on the Friday.. $32.00 per person seems like a lot to me. Anyone know why it is more to fly on a Friday?

I would assume a lot of people try and leave on the weekend to maximize time booked off. You pay for convenience. Mabey it is the Saturday night stay thing? We purposely planned our holiday to arrive on a Tuesday and depart on a Thursday so we could get a seat sale there and back.

yep with SW it's Fri and Sun are the higher price and less discounted days Sun is the worse.

Most of the times they all start out the same just the cheaper flights get taken within the first few hours .
