Why does ground beef smell bad when cooking?

I only buy meat from Kansas City now. You can either buy it directly from them or QVC.

My meat doesn't smell bad when cooking, but it absolutely REEKS when inadvertently left in the trunk of the car for a week in the middle of August.

Wow, I never noticed any particular smell with my hamburger. And I could've lived on hamburgers in my first trimester with both my pregnancies. I literally craved cheeseburgers hourly! We've tried the ground turkey, but no one likes the taste in this house. About the only thing I can use it for is american chop suey, where the onions and tomato hide it - otherwise it gets too noticed!
