Why does Disney strike such an emotional cord?

I try to watch the DVD, and I cry. :sad1: I see a commercial with the happy family and laughing kids, and I cry. :sad1: I hear the dudes voice on the commerial telling me about the year of a million dreams, and I cry. :sad1: I read the trip reports, and I cry.:sad1: Sometimes I cry just going over our itenerary.:lmao:

Now I'm not your typical cryer so I just don't understand why I blubber like a baby over everything Disney. And I know I'm not the only one. From what I have read here, just about everybody gets that same choked up feeling, BUT WHY??

We leave for our 8 day trip in just 6 days and I'm so afriad I'm gonna cry the entire time! You should see how many tissues I packed:lmao:

What Disney thing makes you lose it, and why???

I have had similar experiences. I cried at all of the disney cruise shows. I cried when the horn blew, I cried during the Shamu show, I'm not sure why it makes me so emotional. For me it reminds me of how short life is, and to enjoy every moment. When I was watching my dd's faces yesterday, while they were watching some of the shows, it was really hard to keep it together...:)

I fell the exact same way. When I was little I used to go to Disneyland 2 or 3 times a year. Everytime was exciting. My parents would surprise me us kids with the trip...tell us we were going to go somewhere else and it was always fun and exciting. There were also many times that my grandparent would either take us or would go all together as a family. Well now I am an adult. My parents have since divorced and my grandparents have passed away. But every time I see commercials for Disney or shows about Disney I am immediatly transported into all of those magical feeling that I had as a child.

Ha! Your post made me laugh. Both DH and I were almost sobbing at the MK rope drop (they use the old Viagra commercial song "good morning"!!!), almost sobbing at the sight of DD meeting princesses. And at the opening, we had miscalculated and shown up waaaaayyyy too ealy so DD was throwing a tantrum in her stroller from waiting around so long! While mom & dad choked back big tears!

I think...

At least for me, it's because we dont go all the time. The magic is so much stronger when you're away for a while.

Oh my God, that made me laugh. I do the same thing. What gets me every time on the video is Walt giving his little welcome speech...yup lose it every time.

That's the magic of Disney!

For me it's because Mickey and friends remind me of a time when I didn't have responsibilities and worries. I feel like a big kid again.

When I fly into Orlando and drive under that sign welcoming me to Disney World and have that moment of knowing that for the next few days everything will be taken care of then I know I can be a kid again.

The suspension of disbelief - I really believe it's really Mickey and Minnie and not just someone in a costume - that feeling of there really is good in everyone and everything is perfect there (okay maybe not always but there is that suspension of disbelief again!) Knowing that I can be shielded from the outside world and just enjoy and be happy for a period of time just makes me emotional. No, not everything is always perfect but it sure is darn close!

I just enjoy not having to worry about work and cleaning the house and taking care of everyone and paying bills, etc. My dining is taken care of, Mousekeeping keeps my room clean, transportation is handled and my only responsibility is having fun! Heck, I'm tearing up just thinking about that! jk

Ultimately I think it reminds me of happy times when I was a kid.

I cry when I watch Wishes!, Spectromagic, and Illuminations. It's just so awesome what Disney has become. It truly is the happiest place on earth!

I agree, and I am not sure why it is that it makes me cry. I guess it is because it makes me feel like dreams really do come true. Anything can happen if you just dream and a dream is a wish your heart makes. Disney is a place where everyone is welcome and everyone is special. And I love love love sharing that with my children, letting then know that they can have and be whatever they want if they just believe in themselves and their dreams, Corny I know..

:rotfl2: Too funny. Its so true. I got all choked up at the Pocohantas show last year watching DD and DN so entralled. I thought I was the only one and I turned around to my mother and she was balling.

Oh good - I'm not the only one! We came home last night and all day yesterday at MK, I found myself getting teary on every ride! I was so happy to be there, and so sad to be leaving. I just love it there! I cried during the Nemo show at AK, I cry during the parades, especially when I turn to see my children watching with their wide eyes and smiling faces. I think about how they are going to have such wonderful memories of these special vacations at Disney. We are just so happy there.

LOL>>I cry at the planning videos too.. and when I step onto Main St its hard to hold back the tears...
I cry anytime I see something about Walt...and of course...when we have to leave :(

Me too! Me too! Me too! I cry when we drive under the big sign at the main entrance, cry when we get to MK, cry when I see DD so happy and excited, cry when I'm typing this just thinking about it all. We were planning not to go to WDW again until next Dec in an effort to save $$ and wait until DS is older.(he'll be 1 in Jan.) The day I sat with DD and watched the DVC dvd they sent purely to sell us more points she was so happy and I was so teary just from watching, I decided we were going. DH rolled his eyes, but agreed. He loves it as much as I do. (almost) So we're going in Feb.:woohoo:

It just evokes a lot of childhood memories for me of really happy spring breaks at FW with my family. Then my DH proposed to me there on our first trip together and his first trip ever. Then that's where we spent our honeymoon and several trips since. How can I not get emotional?
