Why does being right feel so wrong?

I've tried to keep up with the long AKV thread, but when did they announce $115 p/p? I don't see paying anything like $115, particularly if one is a current DVC member.

DisneyBill......I read this on a thread either here on the DIS or somewhere else. It was more of a rumor than a definite. But I still think with SSR at $101, not including the promo, AKV could be priced between $101 and $115. I'm also sure that current DVC owners will get some sort of deal to purchase add ons. I'll see if I can locate the thread for you........like I said its a rumor not a Disney announcement.....

With AKV coming I had to decide what points to sell - DH put me at a 300 point limit...it made no sense to sell either small BCV or VWL contract so it means selling my SSR points.

I feel like I am betraying my favorite resort - DH thinks I am insane (which is probably true LOL) but I love the resort. I know that I still will be able to stay there...but it will not be my *home*

It just made sense to reorganize and reallocate since we will be spending most of our time at AKV and so I know this is for the best but I still feel sad. Hopefully my points will find a good home!!!

Jodie.... it's ok. Notice in my sig that I own BWV, but my home is VB. BWV doesn't hold it against me and VB doesn't treat like the next best friend. We're all very happy.

I do understand about the finding a good home. You just don't know these days who might be a points abuser. I would do a background check to be sure.

300 points is a tidy sum, and you will be able to maintain your resort relationships in harmony... I promise

I'm adding my voice to the others to wait! There is no reason to sell, just because a new resort is announced. You may not even like AKLv once they are built. Besides, the first reservations that will be taken are those with a 7 month window when it first opens. That will give you the chance to see if you like the place, and if you really need the 11 month window. I always stay on the holidays, and only at BW/BC is it really a necessity. If you wait you might actually save yourself some money in sales fees and closing costs.

So, why is the 7 month window in play here for initial ressies? If you do an add-on @ initial offering you don't get the 11 month window?

We've "pointed & shooted" in the past buying @ WL & BW sight unseen & were happy as clams. Conversely, glad we did a dry run to BC (not our cuppa tea-for sure).
Figured since CR is still an unknown , why not add on min. points @ AK? We need points somewhere now that the transfer rule is being enforced. Figure if we hate it we could either rent it out, let family use it, or lump it elsewhere @ 7 months.

Even if we do want to "dump it", current ROFR policy should protect investment (seems as though members are selling off SSR for whatever reason @ a brisk pace). Wonder if the # of SSR resales has increased dramatically since the AKV were announced?

Waiting seems like good advice to me. Remember, AKV has no direct ties to a theme park and is in a very remote location. With so many people being "location people", I think you'll see the excitement die down pretty quickly and 7 month bookings become relatively easy.

Why not wait until you stay at AKV at least once or twice? I would never sell something I loved on the chance I'd love something else more. Even though I am tempted by the AKV, the more I think about it the more I think it will eventually be seen as a "less than desirable" resort. OKW and SSR take some heat for having no direct ties to a theme park, why is AKV any different? In fact that location is by far the worst.

Also, just wait until the first bad reviews start flying around here and elsewhere. AKV won't seem so appealing then. SSR is getting past the infant stage and is growing into a mighty fine adolescent. I'd stick with the known entity of a finely maturing resort.

I like to ride on bandwagons so I too agree with everyone here. Wait it out and see. I also love SSR. I like the quietness of it. We were there in Sept. and had a wonderful corner room with a view of the lake. It was so nice to sit out on the patio in the evening and watch the horse drawn carriage meander by.

Mamatojohn- I agree that the fat lady hasn't sung yet. I talked to my guide a couple of days ago. She said that even though AKV's were announced, things could change. They are not registered in Fla. yet which would make it official. I thought her comments were interesting. So I would definietely wait before I sold my SSR points to buy AKV.

If we only knew way back when to buy multiple smaller contracts we could take 50 an do a little something, but alas we must consider adding on. We will wait though to see how hard it is to get ressies.

I'd wait! You might actually hate the way they do AKV. At the very least the construction is going to make that side of AKL an unpleasant place to stay for the next three years. FWIW while I can see the price going up in the natural progression Disney has used I dont see AKV having a radically different price point than the other parts of DVC. Maybe a point or two more for the units that sleep more people. It could work out that you buy a new 25 or 50 point contract just to get in the door.

Besides unless you want to go when DVC is truly booked out (like early December) I dont see the problem. AKV will be the size of BWV and VWL combined. This would be like selling OKW in order to get into SSR. Completely unnecessary.

Dumbo71 you make a very good point that at times seems to me to go right past comprehension for some. AKL is 2 miles to AK park. Yet this will be a theme park DVC.

SSR and OKW are less than 2 miles from Epcot and less than that to Downtown Disney for SSR, but they are both out in the middle of nowhere. It has never made any sense to me.

I think all the DVC resorts have a lot to offer. But at times it seems that opinons of them are based more on emotion and less about facts.

I love this misperception and, selfishly, I hope you're right. The truth is, AK's dedicated buses meant the shortest wait times we've ever had at a WDW resort. A welcomed resort away from it all when desired mixed wtih unbelievable transporation efficiency, meant the best of all possible worlds, and this from a dedicated BCV and BWV owner!

I agree that a resort does not have to be right on top of something to have a very efficient transportation system. AKL seems to do a very good job of getting to and from the parks just as we experienced at SSR this summer.

The worst transportation I have ever experienced is BWV and BCV to MK and AK. I thought I was going to spend my entire vacation on those buses. I truly do not think any resort at Disney has a tremendous edge on the others when it comes to transportation, some are better to a certain park but none are great to all parks. So it truly evens out.
