Why does being right feel so wrong?

With AKV coming I had to decide what points to sell - DH put me at a 300 point limit...it made no sense to sell either small BCV or VWL contract so it means selling my SSR points. :guilty:

I feel like I am betraying my favorite resort - DH thinks I am insane (which is probably true LOL) but I love the resort. I know that I still will be able to stay there...but it will not be my *home*

It just made sense to reorganize and reallocate since we will be spending most of our time at AKV and so I know this is for the best but I still feel sad. Hopefully my points will find a good home!!!

I don't understand. You are selling your current owned points to buy into AKV? Financially that make zero sense. Why? With your current ownship you can still stay at AKV. Why sell and then have to dish out $115 per point just to gain an 4 month window?
Stick with BCV and SSR...............

I agree! Don't do it!!! Once the hype dies down, and another resort is announced after AKL there will be no problem booking a room on all but the most crowded seasons.

Put this conversation off for a while - at least until you see the details on VAKL. The points could be too expensive, they cost/night could be sky high. Etc.

I agree.......with rumors of anywhere from $105 to $115 per point.....it would be an expensive change.

I bet it will aslo be as high or higher them BCV for a nights stay as well. I really don't see the points being more money but I see them raising the points needed to stay.

If AKV is priced higher, couldn't that drive up all the DVC values? If so, I'd wait to see if you could sell at a higher price later. So far, DVC points have never depreciated.

I agree with all the other posters to wait!!!!! I'd wait and stay there before I'd sell anything.

Also, if you really love SSR why would you want to sell those points. It will be a least a few years before Akvs are built and sold out so you will have the opportunity to stay there and make a decision based on your stay.

I'd also wait for the sole reason that the fat lady hasn't sung yet. Just because DVC announces something doesn't mean it will come to fruition - think Eagle Pines. But I do agree with the other posters, seems like an awfully expensive switch - why not see how it goes at the seven month window before you jump in head first? It is supposed to be a larger resort than the other hotel-DVCs, you might be surprised. I'm actually wondering just how popular it will be anyway, it seems like it would have a loyal following like VWL does, and then a lot of people that won't stay there on a bet due to the location - kind of a love it or hate it thing.

I would wait. There is no way I would give up something I know I like for the unknown. We were huge fans of the Beach Club and Wilderness Lodge prior to DVC there. We are not huge fans of BCV or VWL.

I would say wait and see also, meanwhile work on DH on increasing your point limit or wait til AKV opens, book a stay to help convince DH need points at all 4.

Jim.

STOP!

Wait to the cost come out for the resort. Unless the 11 month window is important to you...wait.

That is the issue - the 11 month IS a problem for me. I would really like to own SSR and AKV but unfortunately I don't have my points allocated like I need to own both the way I want.

We bough BCV and VWL because we needed more points and wanted the pool/Holiday option and I wanted small contracts. With AKV coming I know there is little chance we will use either for anything but 7 month bookings. I wish I had known a year ago that new resorts were on the way.

The good news is that I doubt my SSR points will sell anytime soon with the 15% off there is little reason for anyone to buy SSR resale so they will not be going anytime soon. I am not going to wholesale them so if I keep them I keep them. I just plan 11 months out and prefer to not have to switch around at 7 months.

Thanks, I thought maybe we were the only "wierdos". We loved WL and couldn't wait to stay at VWL after we bought. We were very let down, didn't feel it was the same at all. But fortunately, we're happy at other DVC resorts.

To the OP, like others, I say WAIT!!! You've gotten great advice-don't buy there until you stay there. We did it once, didn't work. Now, we own where we've stayed and loved.

I'm adding my voice to the others to wait! There is no reason to sell, just because a new resort is announced. You may not even like AKLv once they are built. Besides, the first reservations that will be taken are those with a 7 month window when it first opens. That will give you the chance to see if you like the place, and if you really need the 11 month window. I always stay on the holidays, and only at BW/BC is it really a necessity. If you wait you might actually save yourself some money in sales fees and closing costs. :hourglass

What is so different between the BC/BCV and WL/VWL sides? Isn't it pretty much the same, with the exception of room layout/floorplan? :confused3

Oh, and to the OP, also like the others: I would say hold off and see what the details are with AKV. :)

Some people are always thinking. I would not have realized the 7 month thing. Interesting, Cruelladeville.
:woohoo: It's nice that so many people are trying to help. I think you'll wind up doing what is right for you. You would be selling SSR wholesale if you sold now, I'll agree with that, I just sold a 100 pt contract that way.

When DVC first started taking reservations for Saratoga Springs it was only about 6 months away from opening. Even still they gave SSR members 2 months of exclusive access before non-owners could book at the resort. It makes sense they would do the same thing with AKV.

To the OP, unless you have a great need for the VWL and BCV points to book at 11 months, personally I'd consider selling those two contracts. With AKV adding another beloved cash resort to the mix and those contracts at BCV and VWL getting shorter and shorter by comparison, I suspect their value will soon have peaked. Additionally, small contracts often seem to bring a premium price since there are many folks who don't want or need DVC's minimum of 150 points.

It does make a lot of sense to wait for more details, but if the AKV details are favorable and the resale market gets flooded with contracts, you may have a harder time selling.

Even if AKV has a higher cost and/or point requirements than other resorts, it will only be a marginal increase. If that doesn't give you reason to re-think your plans, I'd list your contracts now with prices on the high side and see what develops. Particularly if you are willing to consider selling the smaller contracts, I'd list them on eBay or with a resale agent at a price maybe 5-10% above current prevailing prices. I bet it won't take long before you find someone desperate enough to pay your asking price.

I've tried to keep up with the long AKV thread, but when did they announce $115 p/p? I don't see paying anything like $115, particularly if one is a current DVC member.
