Why do you like Rose and Crown?

First of all, let me say that I am English and that the British aren't particularly known for their great food. I look at the menu at R&C and I think it looks very ordinary and overpriced and I just wanted to know from an American point of view, what you find appealing? (apart from the outdoor seating at Illuninations)

I love the Shepherd's Pie and the Potato and Leek soup and the Lamb and Barley soup and Fish 'n' Chips. . .but the last time we were there the service was terrible.

Honestly- not that much about it is appealing any longer. We like it for lunch if we can sit outside on a nice day and have a snakebite. I'll usually fish and chips or the ploughmans lunch. Years ago it used to have a really nice prime rib with yorkshire pudding, that's long gone. So to anyswer your question- we like it for outside casual dining and a cider drink. Oh- forgot to add- DH likes Pam Brody so a lot of times we just stop in the pub (before we had kids)

I'm eating there one evening but more to try to snag outdoor seats and watch illuminations. I'll let you know if we like it or not..

We ate there for the first time this past April. It was good, some of the meal was definitely better than other parts. Was it steller? No. But we timed it for Illuminations and were given a patio seat. The waiter was the best we had all week, the dessert was delish so were the apps. We liked it. Like I said not the best food but I'd go back.

I loved the cottage pie and lamb and barley soup and must say that I am very disappointed that they don't serve it anymore so I have somewhat boycotted them. My dd loves the potato leek soup more than the soup and lecellier. The last time we were there we had a great waitress and the gentleman who was hosting was great too.

In all seriousness, it was the first place I went on a date with another guy and we had an awesome experience all around.

Now I like it for the beer!

We ate there last spring break and didn't think the food was that great, we had a party of 8 and not one dish was anything to write home about. My fish n chips were extremely greasy!

When we tried it for the first time several years ago, we went for the famous "view" of IllumiNations, even though we thought the menu looked uninspiring (overpriced too, yes, but no more so than anything else in World Showcase, plus we are used to NY City pricing). As it turned out, we found a TERRIBLE view of fireworks, but a wonderful meal! The service was terrific and we all enjoyed our food (perhaps this was due to our low expectations?). We've been back a few times since and have loved it each time. The lamb & barley soup is one of the best soups I've ever had; we also enjoy the potato leek soup, fish & chips, bangers and mash, shepherd's pie and the pie sampler. We don't ever eat at pubs, and I don't cook these dishes at home, so for us it's pretty different fare, even though not "exotic." My DH likes the beer, too.

We always had a great experience at Rose & Crown and have almost been fortunate enough to get a patio seat for Illuminations. I'm not a real adventurous eater, so I'm a bit disappointed that the prime rib is gone from the menu.

We've got ADR's for later this month while we're there, primarily because the last trip (a few years back) was so memorable for us all. I'm hoping we won't be highly disappointed.

Oh, and my husband could care less about the food; it's all about the Black-and-Tan (beer) on the patio my friends!!

fish and chips are always a must from the take out window but besides that we had to eat here on Thanksgiving day 2006 due to a lack of planning and no other availability. It was nice and we made due but I found the food to be salty and not the best ever. But , it was fine, being English though, I would try another country out for fun. Go to Moraco it was interesting. I like it because dh likes it. He's British and has been living in the US since 98. Since we wind up at WDW more often than we wind up in the UK, it's a must for us. It reminds him of home I guess.

I studied in London my junior year of college, so I enjoy Rose & Crowne for nostalgia! The food is okay - pricey and not the best ever. But its hard to find Cider many places, and I love hearing British accents! Also, hubby and I went there on our first anniversary, so it is kind of special for us.

I was NOT excited to go there and LOVED my meal, and the staff, a chef even came to our table.. shechatted with us and then visited a few other tables.. they even covered our strollers with plastic when it started to rain w/out even asking us.. they did it for everyone... I have pic's but no food names.. hope this helps... dish in bowl is chicken

I don't like it anymore.

I used to love it for the Cottage Pie and the Chicken Pasty, but they're both off the menu. I even asked the server for the recipes the first time I was there, I loved it so much. The chef was so happy we came out to meet us.

Good question, Jean - maybe it reminds them of home - we personally don't want to be reminded of home while we are in WDW. Perhaps it's a British thing - when we have been to Spain, many Brits tend to stake out the English pubs - for some reason - I prefer to find a nice paella, myself.

Also believe it or not, it's actually quite difficult to find a restaurant over here selling traditional English food - Italian, Indian and Chinese are way more popular.

Don't mean to put Rose and Crown down too much - I do like to have a cold beer in there on a hot August afternoon - can't beat it. Harp lager isn't a variety on tap in most English pubs though, mostly irish pubs I think - in fact I can't think of an english beer - they sell mostly Carling, Carlsberg or Fosters where we are - prefer a Bud myself.
