Why do you DIS?

And more specifically, why do you DIS on the Community Board?

I first starting coming to these boards to find out more about WDW. We are planning our first family trip this coming December, and I wanted to find out as much about Disney as possible. For the first month or so, I spent all my time on the Planning, resort and dining boards.

But now, I seem to spend a lot more time here on the community board.
For me, the community board is a way to get away for a little while. My job is dealing with people (more often than not, dealing with people's problems). People come to me and my wife looking for help and counsel and advice about a range of problems (sometimes very serious things). Although I enjoy doing this, it can be draining. I believe it is important to be able to "get away" for awhile, and posting here on the DIS, is a great way to do that.
That is why I scarcely ever post about serious things. Once in a while the mood will hit me, and I'll write a post, or comment about something political, but than just as quick the mood leaves, and I wish I had avoided the subject in the first place.
So for me, the DIS is a great place to come, talk about non-serious things, and enjoy reading other peoples thoughts as well. It is also a place to speak English. After talking in Spanish for a good part of the day, it is nice to be able to revert back to my own language, and not have to think too hard about what I want to say.

So, why do you DIS?

Now.....I DIS because I like getting together with friends everyday I feel as if I'm getting to know many DISers, and I enjoy visiting with them for awhile every morning. Anymore, I can't imagine starting my day any other way

I first started coming to the DIS to help with planning DH and my first trip to the World as a couple. We joined the month before that trip, I think, and there was still a lot of stuff that we missed. After that trip, I didn't post for a while. I really got back into it when we booked our trip we went on the first week of December (we booked it about a year in advance). I started venturing down to the CB b/c the other boards were making me jealous (and also b/c I'd heard that the tag fairy lives here)! Now that we're back from our trip, I probably won't venture back to them much b/c it'll just make me want to go back really soon.

I first DISed in the late 90's, just surfing around to get info for a trip.

The people were so helpful that I couldn't help but wonder what the Community Board was all about. One day of lurking and I was hooked.

Now, I come because there's such a great group of old friends and new friends everyday. Where else can a person know that in an instant, they'll have someone fun to talk to?

I come because there's a few people that I really like that come here plus it's become a habit over the years. It's not like the old days but then what is?

I always get great information from the community board, but probably the main reason I come back is that it's a lot like a soap opera, usually something dramatic going on in at least one thread.

I just want to talk to people and make new friends. I have very few "real" friends - I'm extremely shy and I find it difficult to talk to people. Plus I've found that not many people in my area share my interests and are open-minded; I find more people like that on the internet!

To me, it's just like a general place to go and chat about a variety of topics.

I can do so with some of my friends and co-workers, but I find that here I can "let off more steam." I do my fair share of complaining/venting here that I don't think I should do face-to-face with people because sometimes it can just get too negative. But with several thousand people on-line at once, with a variety of topics going, it is easier to do.

I don't use the trip planning boards unless I am actively planning a trip. But visiting the community boards sometimes gives me incentive to start working on a new trip.

I'd also like to add that I get lots of laughs down here on the CB. The posters around here are incredibly funny! I've gone to other MB's that *think* they are funny, but the Dis truly is!

I think I heard of the Community Board, so I came here; but my real home is the Teen Board.

I came hear to get WDW information and ended up getting hooked on the Transportation and Resort Boards...I got a lot of information and tried to give back information I had...the Transportation Board saved me a lot of money and I learned about the National Emerald Ailse there...THEN one friday night I had a few cocktails and decided to venture into some of the other Boards and ended up on the CB...met a funny group of people and have pretty much been here ever since although I have had a couple of transformations ...I enjoy the different dicussions on a variety of topics that are discussed here and I always look forward to thread started by Pop Daddy or monkeyboy
