Why do we always have a run of bread and milk.

We just had a snow storm on Last saturday, Friday stores were packed even with 21 inches in South Jersey, grocery stores were open the next day. now we are expecting another one Tomorrow and of course every one is flocking to the supermarket like it's Armageddon!! Why? One day is the most any of the stores were closed. Why do we do this? It's Philly for Christ sake not Katmandu, Nepal!!

I went out last Thursday to the grocery,,but it is my normal grocery evening. I did have DH stop for a few things last night...But I really don't understand the need for 24 extra rolls of toilet paper, just because it is going to snow:confused3

I ask this same question when we have a long weekend. The store is only closed for one day but it seems like everyone has to get there the day before because the store is not open the next day.

Here in Canada we have to go buy our booze at a LCBO store not like you guys that can get it in a lot of places. When it is going to be closed for one day you should see the line ups. Why don't people go a few days head of time. :confused3

Snow can be tricker though, who know when you will be snowed in for a few days. Ploughs that don't clean the streets right away and you can't get out of your driveways.

A guy on one of the local morning radio shows here always yells "Buy milk, bread and eggs! Make French Toast!" whenever the weather forecast calls for any measurable amount of snow. HA!

I used to work at Wawa. Let me tell you snow storms were super fun. We would run out of the holy trinity for snow storms, milk, bread and toilet paper.

:rotfl: Guilty!

This is at least the second thread today about this...really, I don't get why it seems to bother people enough to comment on it (unless you work at a grocery store or something). If I have what I need in the house, I don't go to the store. If I'm running short of something, I'll stop at the store before it snows. :confused3 Let's face it, after the storm stops the roads and parking lots may not be in the greatest condition. So maybe people run out now so they don't have to go the store later on.

There, I just commented on it myself!! ;)

LOL we're those fools who make the Wawa run out of milk, lol. Oh, and the homestyle roast beef sandwiches... omg... deliciousness.

I looked in the fridge today, and I was like, OHHHH CRAP. Out of mostly everything, so when DH gets home, we're gonna go to the store. Fun!

I can't believe all the snow we're getting here (in the Philly burbs)!!

You forgot the eggs. Don't you know how important it is to eat french toast after shoveling!?

Us unlucky Pennsylvanians can only get liquour at the state run stores. And yes, those get quite busy too when snow is coming! Double whammy last week with the storm coming on Super Bowl weekend.

I dont' get why people do it either....it only really bothers me when a storm comes on a Sunday/Monday and affects my shopping since that is my normal day to go.

We skip the french toast and buy liquor. A little hot choc with some Baileys or Peppermint Schnaups to warm you up :)

I did my regular weekly grocery shopping last Friday. Yesterday they were predicting snow (8-9 inches) for us for today and tomorrow. I went to town to get milk, bread and a few more "essentials" we were running low on, plus refilled a prescription that I had planned on doing today.

I went early, when the roads were still clear and dry. If I would have waited until today I would have been driving on crappy roads. I avoid that if at all possible.

Today, I popped a beef roast into the oven with potatoes, carrots and onions and watched the snow fall. :goodvibes I don't plan on getting out again until Friday or Saturday.

People want to make sure they don't have to go out in the mess if it lasts longer than a few days.

and

We once had a snowstorm that caused havoc with delivery trucks. There was no milk or fresh produce for over a week. This was in the eighties. I think it's better to be safe than sorry. We won't die without milk, but if I can make sure I have it, it's better than not having it.

Because our grandkids live here and are big milk drinkers.

Well, guess what. Storm here tomorrow and we're going to the store shortly. Only reason being is that we have no bread or anything to eat if we lose power. We normally don't eat deli meats at all but going to pick up some tonight. If we lose power we have nothing to cook with. So off we go to the grocery store with everyone else. (L)

:rotfl: I have a friend that calls people who run to the store for milk, bread and eggs before a storm french toast people!!! I hate to tell her I bought milk, eggs and flour yesterday. What does that make me pancake people.

Well you are all set for next Tuesday when it is pancake day....:lmao:

Before our snow hit last night, I already had 2 gallons of milk in the house.
I bought another 2 knowing there would be snow on the way with the possibility of snow days. Well, snow day here today and 1 and 1/2 gallons are already gone. Cereal, milk with oatmeal, milk to drink, milk with hot chocolate.
If we have another snow day tomorrow, I will have to start rationing it!:)

I work for the competition.....there is nothing better than the snow people. Everyone fills their tank up? Why, you can't go anywhere :confused3
