Why do we all keep going back?

I've had a few people lately question why we keep going back to Disney, over and over again. We've been nearly 50 times in the last 20 years. Only three trips in 2013, but they are three weeks each.

People think we're a little strange for doing it so often, but we take other trips too so it's not exactly exclusive. For us I've come up with the following reasons:

1.) It's my happy place, and my wife enjoys it but not as much as I do.

* We can watch and interact with people from all over the world
* I've said this elsewhere, but WS in Epcot reminds me of an NFL tailgate party where you can be entertained while walking around drinking beer all day. Lots of stuff to do.
* Resorts onsite AND off are spectacular
* Great shopping.
* Good exercise
* Great place to watch little kids having fun and laughing
* More reasons than I can even think of. It brings joy to my heart. Literally it does.

2.) It's relatively cheap.

We took a three week west coast trip last fall and on a daily basis we spent more on that trip than we do at Disney. It surprised me a little, but Orlando is not an outrageously expensive vacation destination. Once we spend the money for APs, we can get cheap airfare and cheap accommodations with various discounts on property and through timeshares offsite. Rental cars are becoming a challenge, but still not too bad.

3.) The weather is usually better than where we come from, especially in the winter. That's a big plus.


Well enough about us. WDW has never failed to provide a spectacular vacation for us.

What are your reasons?

ETA: PS: we're retired so we do spend more time traveling than most people do. I consider us very lucky to be able to do this. Very lucky.

We keep going back because its the only vacation we've ever been on anywhere that once you enter the "disney bubble" the outside world ceases to exist. All thats good in the world is right there and there is no place I'd rather be...

We get this question a lot and it really is starting to bug me..

It comes mostly from my MIL who doesn't understand not only our need to vacation yearly but io go to WDW.

To us WDW is our happy place, we can have fun riding rides, or relax at the pool resort or have a great meal!

We love anything Disney it allows us to feel like kids again and believe in magic and leave the stress of the real world outside the gates for those 7 days we are there..

I get asked the same question all of the time and almost always by the people that I work with who know DD and I go twice each year, who know that I grew up doing the same, who know that I will only write with Disney pens, etc.

I tell them time and again: it's because we love it! I've traveled all over the world but nothing compares to the feeling that I get the moment I pass under the Walt Disney World sign, the excitement of taking that first step inside MK. I love the sights and smells, attractions and shows, meeting new people and reuniting with old friends. It's just an all around magical experience that sends me back to childhood memories while I'm making new memories with my child.

I was thinking about this same thing the other day.

For me, it comes down to the ease of vacationing at Disney.

~They transport you to your resort from the airport.

~They deliver your luggage to your room.

~They have transportation that will take you anywhere you want to go within the Disney area.

~You are able to check your luggage at your resort and don't have to drag bags to the airport.

If you wish, you can pre-plan for your meals, and have everything paid for when you arrive, if you booked a package.

I'm thinking you might mean 2012? If you really mean 2013, you should probably move to Orlando.

I go because Disney brainwashed me on my first trip back in 1971.

Now that we live here, WDW really is a cheap vacation. With APs, discounts on resorts, less than a tank of gas there and back, the ability to bring groceries since we drive, and all in-park entertainment included ... it really is a great value.

I've spent 24 days on site so far this year, but won't go back until November or December. Summers we mostly do beaches.

For me it’s because Disney is a guaranteed good time without as much work. We’re planning two trips this year: 4 days at Disney & 5 days in Iceland.

For the Iceland trip I have to do a ton of research. I don’t know what’s available to do, what we’d want to do, where we can eat (we have dietary restrictions), etc. etc. Even when I pick a hotel, tour operator, restaurant, whatever that I feel completely comfortable with, I’m still not sure we’re going to enjoy it. If we don’t like it, we’re stuck there. There’s no one I can go to and say ‘this isn’t working out, what can we do instead?’ There are a lot of unknowns. It looks like it’ll be fun but we won’t know until we go.

With Disney I know I’ll have a great time. I know I’ll get great customer service at any hotel or restaurant. I might debate for weeks and months about the perfect dinner reservation or just the right hotel, but no matter where I end up if I’m not happy someone will be there to help fix things. Disney’s just an easy way to ensure a good vacation.

I’d love to travel and see more but with very limited time off it’s hard to ‘try something new’ that might leave me just as stressed as before my vacation, when I can grab a quick direct flight to someplace that’s always a good time.

The question use to be "why?". Now it is "AGAIN?". My answer is always the same.......a smile. Then I head back to my desk and either look at the countdown calendar or the clock....or both.

Nope. 2013. Feb/Mar, Sep/Oct, Nov/Dec.

The spring trip was not planned until late when my DD and DIL decided to run in the Princess Half and of course we HAD to go watch that especially since some of the grandchildren were going too!

The castmembers are a big part of why I like to keep going back. I love being greeted with a smile!

But my husband is the big driving force behind our repeated vacations, and he says that for him Disney is the one place where he doesn't have to be in charge. He can stop being responsible, and just let someone else take care of everything. It's a HUGE stress relief for him.

When we go to other places, he's always worrying about car rentals and hotel and where we're going and what we'll do. At Disney he can let all that go. I think the only time of the year he ever really sleeps well is when we're at Disney.

Which is why we'll be upgrading to annual passes on this trip!

I’ve been almost 30 times in 19 years and just love it and wish we could go more. I also love cruising, almost as much as WDW and it doesn’t have to be on DCL. Luckily DH loves it just as much as I do.

We occasionally vacation elsewhere but WDW is where I always want to return. I have a terrible time paying for hotel rooms at other locations that are the same price or more than a WDW hotel. If I am going to pay $$$ for a hotel room, I want it to be at Disney.

A couple of years ago, we finally splurged for the first time to get a room for 2 nights in NYC in Times Square. We did have a good time and would like to do it again but I keep thinking for the price of that hotel, I would rather be in WDW.

Since taking DD6 twice a year since she was 18 months old, we have “rediscovered” the parks through her eyes which has been wonderful. The parks are beautiful and there is so much to see and do. I feel safe and at home there.

Another reason is it is easy.

You already have it figured out. If you vacation in a new spot, you have to find new restaurants and hotels and transport and activities. At WDW, you know what there is. However, it has good "repeat" value, in that you enjoy experiencing attractions again and again. It also has so many things to do that you can keep experiencing new things as well. Also, what place is more friendly to kids? Even the most fancy of restaurants accept kids. What is more friendly to a family taking Grandma? Easy for her to rent an ECV, go back to the hotel if she is tired.

Simply: the magic that makes me cry as soon as I see the castle our first day and makes me cry all during Wishes. It's amazing.

Another great point.

It is a familiar place with great "repeat" value, though I do enjoy going places other than Disney.

Me and my wife were actually discussing this the other day and there are a couple reasons why we always go:

- From up here in Buffalo, it's a 2 and a half hour direct flight, not bad at all. We both dislike being on planes for a long period of time.

- The Florida weather is so much better than Buffalo weather, its a great relief from the cold winter months.

- Once you get on the plane to head to Disney, you don't have to worry about a thing. They take your bags and deliver them to you, they transport you from the airport for free, they drive you around everywhere in Disney for free, you never need to rent a car.

- It's never boring, there's always something to do and something new to explore. People I know who travel just to sit on a beach all day or by a pool and tan, now that's boring!

- You know what your paying for and your never disappointed.
