Why do UY's appear so disproportional?

I know there's nothing scientific about my observation, but in watching the resale market from daily emails provided by two of the most prominent DVC resellers in the marketplace, I continually notice the lack of June resales. I will admit that I haven't noticed other particular months because my primary interest in in retaining my current UY (No need to go there in this thread. I have my reasons and am well aware of the perceived ease of using different UY's.).

I think I also remember reading in the past that Feb's are pretty rare also.

I've about decided that this is due to how busy the various seasons are, and that total UY points available for any particular UY are based on how busy the immediate prior season may be (just prior to expiration). That's about the only thing that makes sense to me but I've never heard anything official.

Has anybody ever seen anything official on how the allocate the various UY's or have a theory they've developed based on what they have observed?

This has always fascinated me and I'm just wondering if anyone else has ever even noticed this.

Have you seen the chart of use year distribution from DVC News? I always assumed the bigger use year is the one they started selling when the resort sales opened.

I have a June use year and also noticed the lack of resales in my year for BLT despite it being the second largest use year for the resort.

Nice post! I had never seen that.

Guess the take-away is they should sell more June UY's because apparently people that buy them don't ever sell. :D

Or is it just that there aren't a lot of resales period and you're just noticing that there aren't a lot in your UY but it actually applies to all? :teeth:

If you have a June UY at VGC you're pretty golden. If you have Dec at AKV - your pretty golden. If you have Feb at BLT - your pretty golden. At the times they were selling those they got stuck for quite awhile. But depending on the resort it will vary as the chart shows.

We will be updating the Use Year Distribution charts in the near future. Since the charts were last updated in 2014 there hasn't been a significant shift in the system-wide distribution. But Use Years have now been assigned to all the Residential Units at the Villas at Grand Floridian, as well as the Use Years for a handful of Residential Units at the Polynesian Villas & Bungalows. The new charts will reflect these changes.

Only Disney knows why they sell the number of new contract per UY. I am sure they have their reasons both marketing and financial, maybe tax related?
