Why do threads get closed?

I've noticed over the past few days, that certain threads get closed. Why is this? Has someone used profanity, and is it against the rules? Are certain topics, not open to discussion? From what I've seen, it just looks like people stating their opinion. What am I missing?

I think if you open a thread with the purpose of selling something, the thread will be closed as well.

Sexual innuendo is also a no-no. If something can be taken as such, even if you don't mean it that way, it's not a good idea to post it.
