I'm dating myself, but I bought my VB points at a time when the new contracts for additional OKW points did not come with park passes attached to them. (Originally, those of us, who bought OKW and VB - maybe HH, but not sure - in the beginning years, received free WDW park passes for our length of stay.)
However, I found out that VB contracts still had the free passes attached to the points. Because we were doing an upcoming OKW GV trip with 9 friends who couldn't really afford Disney at the time, we needed the additional passes. Therefore, I chose adding a VB contract, instead. It made sense then, but then the pass program ended, as they started building BV. The bookkeeping on a passes/no passes points combinations in one stay was really a nightmare for MS, so I'm sure they were thrilled when the pass program ended...
It's been a tad bit of a pain at times, having to wait for certain windows, but you develop a routine. I tend to leave my VB points for doing stays at the GCH or DLH out here at DL and use my OKW for our WDW trips.
That and you need to be flexible with your "vision of your vacation"! This has worked for us, for the most part, and we usually book 1 or 2 bedroom units, depending on how many (if any) other families come along. We always seem to stay at a different resort each visit, and the reservations windows haven't really been too much of a problem. People always seem to cancel and leave openings - except at the BCV! We all have our resort that foils us! I've just resigned myself that it will be the only
DVC resort we'll never be able to stay in!

It's never our first choice, but my habit after checking the other resort availability for a 1 or 2 bedroom is to finally say "what about BCV - I know the answer will be no?" and chuckle loudly. After I explain, the MS CM gets a kick out of it!
