You have a new car and don't want it to get nicked or scratched so, you park it in the parking lot 60 miles from the store where there are 160 empty spaces.

You come out of the store and you see two other cars out there parked right next to you on both sides of your car.:confused3

They were protecting your car from out of control shopping carts flying through the parking lot.

OP, are you the one that parked 60 miles from the door?

OMG, my DH is like this (parks the furthest he can from the store entrance and then sometimes will park "crooked" taking up two parking spaces)

DRIVES ME NUTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Every single time I ask him, "what are you doing?" He says, "I don't need some ******* hitting my truck"

My thoughts are though....if you park like that (like an idiot) than I think it's like asking to get hit. I mean you're sending out this vibe that your truck is better than everyone elses, so if you park like this...everyone will take notice and then make sure they back off. I personally, think just the opposite....when I see a vehicle parked like that, I think to myself...."what a *******, who do they think they are, they're no better than anyone else!!!" I mean, it's not that I would purposely hit/nick/bang up against a car parked like this but I just don't like the fact that people act this way.

Sorry for rambling....it's just a big pet peeve of mine. But maybe in your case, if you're the one that was parked in the middle of nowhere, maybe the two other cars had the same idea as you did???? Maybe they thought..."hey, if he's parked out in the middle of nowhere, I should park next to him and then my car will be safe from any damage"????

Hopefully, nothing happened to your car though...

Usually it is some piece of crappola that is parked by you. I firmly believe they do this to piss you off and 9 times out of 10, they ding your car on purpose.

Or maybe the two people that parked their cars on either side of the OP's car felt the same way, maslex, did! That to park 60 miles away from the door is really, well, ODD! :headache:

I've been known to park on an angle right next to them, with only a few cars in the lot :rolleyes1 Sometimes the snarky in me just gets out. I know it is an expensive investment, but the sideways thing drives me nuts. Even more so when spaces are limited (in which case I wouldn't do the snarky sideways imitation...).

Now if a car is alone regularly parked at the end, it could be that they wanted to walk. That is part of my "life fitness". I get in any walking I can when I can, so I park as far away as I can.

Though parking far away, you won't run the risk...:

(NOT saying that OP or anyone is like the young girls here, just saying parking far away would insure no damage :) )

I park out in the middle of nowhere and pull all the way through because it is hard for me to back out of parking places. It seems that usually the only ones you can pull all the way through are located way out...but if I see one fairly close I will grab it.

I have always wondered why people do park by someone that parks way out. To change the subjet alittle. I have always wondered why a movie theater can be completely empty and people come set right next to you or right in front or behind you.

I've thought about that myself. It may be some deep set instinctual thing that couples with socialization. It's like being in a practically empty theater and having somebody 6' 8" sit right in front of you. Why? There is no logical reason for it to happen but it happens all the time. 400 seats to chose from and they chose to be directly in front of you.

Maybe they think you smell purrty!:rotfl:

They do it to piss you off.

At least parking 60 spaces away is better than taking two spaces.

Well workers generally have to park a distance away so some of them might be employees.

Also I know I am a creature of habit and I park in a certain area, always.

Generally I do not worry about door dings though.

I do this too.

I also try to park near one of the island things (what is that thing called?)that has a patch of grass. This protects one side of our vehicle. I pull real close to that thing and hope for the best.

ETA- I do this for us and for other people. I like to put stuff on the front passenger seat. I have room other places but that's the easiest for me to grab stuff to bring into the house. I have been known to forget stuff if I don't! Anyway, I don't want to be smushed between vehicles to try to unpack stuff from a cart. So I park away from others in order to do that with the least amount of trouble.

I park far away from everyone b/c I am very short(Piglet short) & If I want to pull out of a spot I literally can never see when I'm backing out b/c people in huge trucks or suvs are blocking my view. Then a lot of the time when I get back to my car there is an Escalade on each side!:headache: I just always make sure that I can pull out forward to get out of a spot instead of backing out now. It may be different if I lived up north with the cold, but in Florida its not so bad, good exercise anyways!

Well, taking up more than one spot is stupid and rude, so if someone does that, people will often park close to them just to get their goat.

If you're parked normally, I have a theory. When you go to a mall, movie, etc., you know someone is going to park next to you at some point. Who would you rather be next to - someone with a new car who obviously doesn't want dings? Or someone who might not care about dings? Why not go ahead and park next to that nice new car in the first place?

Although you do not want to park near other cars, your car does not share your feelings. Your car is lonely and it sends out low-frequency calls below human hearing threshold, saying, "Come on over, friends!" Other cars hear this and, if their driver is distracted and not paying attention, they take control and drive over to your lonely car.

Or maybe the drivers are trying to make their 10,000 steps on their pedometer, and seeing you reminds them that parking far out is virtuous and leads to good exercise?

I do this most times too and of course i always come out to som crappy car that is parked crooked next time mine,. i dont get it either......i dont do the two spaces thing tho thats just annoying.

If there is a vehicle deliberately taking up two spaces by parking crooked, I guarantee you I'll be parked correctly in the space next to them...effectively hemming them in and making it very difficult for them to get out. :)
