Why do so many people dislike CBR?

We loved CBR when we stayed there, but we were close to the food court and main pool. I think I might have felt differently if I was in a building farther away. If you want the tropical theme, then you are in the right place! The music at the resort just makes me want to bounce around. FWIW, CBR is the only Value or Moderate resort where I could consider paying for a "Preferred" room.

I have no idea why people dislike CBR. We loved it! We liked the fact that it was spread out - it's beautiful to walk around. We felt that we were on a little getaway. The only thing I can think of that could be improved is that the main pool is a little small, but there are plenty of quiet pools around. Also, there is one building across a main road (can't remember the name) that I would avoid simply because it seemed pretty isolated from the rest of the resort. I would go back to CBR in a second, though!

I understand why you might be a little nervous, since it's 9 days of your vacation at stake, but my guess is that the worst that can happen is that you decide you want to try another (great) resort the next time, rather than deciding that you will never stay anywhere else but CBR. If someone told me that was my only choice, though, I'd be perfectly happy. ::MinnieMo

We stayed at CBR in September of 2003, and we loved it. We stayed in Jamacia, and were close to the buses, and the food court was just a short walk over the bridge and by the pool area. We had a four year old and one year old and were fine. Usually either myself or my DH would walk over to the food court in the morning and bring breakfast back for us to have in our room. We never waited long for the buses, and they went directly to the four major parks.

Northern Lights,

Oh my gosh...do you mean to tell me that I will not be able to take a "direct" bus to any of the parks at night from CBR? If so, after what time? This may be a MAJOR factor in my decision!!!

I think the poster was trying to explain that there are no direct buses from other resorts (and their restaurants) to CBR. This is true of all the resorts othere than those that "share." During the day, you can transfer at a park but once the parks close, DTD is the transfer point.

You will certainly have evening buses to the parks. :sunny:

We stayed in the CBR in Feb of 1999, when only 2/5 of the resort was even done!
I think we've stayed there close to a half dozen times over the years, and it's our
default choice for a "moderate" resort. The music is great, the food court is good
(mmm sticky buns)...
We really didn't even mind how spread out the resort is -the last couple of times we
were there we were at the faaar end of the resort. It's still a 10 min walk or so to
Old Port Royale. Each cluster of buildings has a quiet pool, so's if you want to be
lazy it's pretty easy.
We love the caribbean theming, and are amazed at how much the trees, etc have
grown since we first stayed there.
We'd stay here in an instant! We've got such good memories and pictures of our
two DD's at the resort.

I have not stayed at CBR, so no recs there. However, since your stay is so long, maybe considering splitting your stay? 4-5 nts at CBR & then 4-5 nts at WL? I'd definitely go Mod to Deluxe and not Deluxe to Mod to stave off the disappointment. Would save some $$ and be like two vacations! Then you have some comparison for your next trip.

Sorry, just now getting back to the thread. A prior poster correctly stated my intent that I meant restaurants, etc. For example, on one of our off park evenings, we craved a dessert from Kona Cafe and barely made it back to MK in time to catch the bus back to CBR. Another off park night we went to the Campfire at FW and we were forced to have to go through DTD to get back to CBR - kind of painful with a tired child.

Again, sorry for the confusion. If you plan on being either at the parks or your resort in the evenings then this is a total non-issue!

Although a lot of people have already posted I just wanted to say that I really enjoy CBR and its tropical setting. Yes it is spread out (but you can be centrally located to it all), but that for me makes it feel more like a resort! I have stayed there numerous times..I hope you enjoy your stay there as much as I have enjoyed my stays there :) If you have any questions feel free to ask.

The only problem I have with CBR is it is sooooo spread out. If you are near the food court and a bus stop life is good. Otherwise you are going to be spending a lot of time walking.

Go and have a good time. This resort is great. Sometimes people over think the situation and it really is wasted time. Every resort in Disney is great. Just go and have a great time. I stayed at CBR and loved it. The grounds are beautiful and everything was great.

Have fun.

We stayed at CBR in 2003 and loved it. The food court was just overhauled and the food was nice. The atmosphere was enjoyable and the pools were nice. We stayed 9 days and did not have any major problem that was not immediatly corrected. A mistake on the CM's part had our two rooms in seperate buildings at first but with alot of apologizing they moved all of our luggage for us while we went out.

The buses ran almost every 10 minutes so there was nover a problem getting to/from any park. The only time we had a problem getting back to the resort was a night we ate at the Contemporary. When we finished our dinner all the buses had stoped from the MK for the night. We needed to go to Downtown Disney and wait for a bus returning to CBR. There were 9 of us and we just sat back and enjoyed the down time.

If I had the chance and SOG was at capacity I would ask to go back to CBR.

Have a great Vacation :earsboy:

Next to the Polynesian it is my wifes favorite resort and I really enjoyed staying there as well.
