I do not understand why you would stand in a line for a fastpass line unless it was 15 minutes or under help me understand this ?

I can fastpass indy and go on pirates and haunted mansion and pooh instead of waiting in line for indy.

Splash mountain wait times are bad why on earth would you wait 90 min to ride?

Is it to many people are not smart enough to fastpass or they like long wait times?

I think the #1 reason is misunderstanding what fp is and how it works. I think many people either dont know what it is or how to use it or think they have to pay extra for it (universal front of the line pass).

When we were there in mid May there were people waiting in line for 60+ minutes for some rides like Indy or Space mt. We never waited more then 20 minute for any ride in either park, and we rode everything. And we came home with handful's of unused fp's.

I agree people just don't know how it works.
We went with a friend 2 years ago who goes every November and didn't know how to use the FP machines. We booked our trip thru AAA to take advantage of the enhanced FP before it went away.

Her poor kids had been stand needlessly in long lines.:(

I suppose it is good for me because if everyone did it fastpass would run out real quick.

Good thing we have not so smart people in the world lol

well, what else would you do when you cant get fastpasses? :)

A lot of times, people just want to ride it again and fastpasses arent available. Yes, a lot of people doesnt seem to know how Fastpasses work either.

One reason is because some people like myself like to ride some of the rides like Indy, Space, Splash more then once in one day. No I wouldn't stand in a line for 90 minutes especially for something I've been on numerous times, but when the weather is hot and the crowds are large that's what happens a majority of the time.

Not everyone are "type a" DISers :) , some people see visiting in line as part of the experience. I guess it is a lot of the same people who don't mind being late! I just repeated some Meyers Brigg testing, and it does remind you of how many different personality types there are !

I have read (especially on a few other boards) posts from people who hate FastPass and all it represents. They seem to be the people who remember the "good old days" before FP, when, no matter what time you showed up at DL, it was a level playing field for everybody for long lines. I think this is often the local AP holder who was accustomed to showing up with their kids for a few hours or just the evening, and getting to ride what they wanted with a medium long wait. They say that the lines were shorter then because nobody was skipping ahead with FP. Well, lots of other stuff along the same lines, but I guess I can't really agree. I think if you are foresighted enough to research your options, and you're willing to get to the parks early, and go through the work of collecting FPs, that you deserve the reward of not having to wait in long standby lines all day!

Then, I have heard some people say that they love standing in those hourlong lines because the queues are so interesting, and they get to chat and make friends with other people.

Me, not so much. 20 minutes is plenty for me to enjoy the ambiance of the queue. But, that's just me, and it takes all kinds, right? :goodvibes

I don't like waiting for more than 30 mins. to ride something ive ridden tons of times before. In california adventure, in the summer, i never wait more than 20 mins for ANY ride. Either i take advantage of the single rider pass, or i just get lucky! When the line is greater than 45 mins i usually skip it, but this year we have a long trip because of my graduation present, so i wont care if there are long lines. :) :)

I also think for some folks it's a "control" issue. Let me explain:

Some have the attitude, "I'm not going to plan on being back in this part of the park in 2 hours just so I can ride xxxxxx. I may be somewhere else and don't want them to tell me I have to come back at that time. So I'm just gonna stand in line for an hour instead since I'm already here."

I'm not saying it makes sense, and I won't stand in a line for more than about 15-20 minutes either. Especially since we all know that you don't "officially" have to use your fastpass during your allotted hour. I just gather them up as I go along, and use them towards the end of the day, or when I happen to be back around that ride.

So I guess it's once again the concept that many folks just don't get fastpass, or don't know how to use it effectively.

Fine by me though. More people standing in line = less people to compete with in other areas of the park!

And some people don't know that you dont have to come back at the posted time. You can come back later.

So people are going on the ride for a second time or even third time?

I've never really done FP just because I don't spend whole days in the park and mostly go during the off season when you don't even need it. But can you have more than one FP at a time? That might have something to do with it too?

Actually yes, you can have more that one FP at a time. Here's a couple of ways how:

1) When you get a fastpass, not only does it have a window of time that tells you when you can use your pass, it also has another time at the bottom of the pass that tells you when another fastpass is available for you. So even if you haven't used that fastpass, you can get another one (but not for the same ride; you can only have one fastpass at a time for any one ride. For example, you can't hold 2 fastpasses for Indy at the same time.)

2) Another way is to "hop" to DCA while you still have fastpasses for DL you haven't used. The 2 systems aren't connected, so you could actually get a fastpass for Space Mt., then jump over to DCA and get one for Soarin' as soon as you get there.

I use fastpass all the time, every trip, at both DL and WDW. There have been many times that I have held 4 or 5 fastpasses at the same time.

I have also found that all Fastpass lines are not created equally. Some save you a lot of time (Space Mountain) while others may only save you a few minutes (Indiana Jones), so that helps me decide which Fastpasses are a high pririty for me.

Sometimes waiting in line doesn't bother us. Usually we already have fast passes for some rides, but will wait in line for something else. We like to talk with each other, plan what else we are going to do, and decide where to eat. I would much rather do that than walking around aimlessly after a ride.

I agree with not walking around aimlessly, that's why I always have a plan. I know not everyone is like that, but I can't go to DL or WDW without some sort of schedule to go by. Now, I'm pretty flexible with that plan, and can change it if I need to, but I think most people that go into it with no planning or research whatsoever are asking for trouble. I can't tell you how many horror stories I've heard of families going for an entire day, and riding 4 or 5 rides because they just walked around looking for short lines, couldn't find any, and just focused on the "E ticket" rides.

My philosophy is: grab FP for big rides if there is a long line, and go do less popular attractions until I can use my FP, or get several FPs throughout the day and use them in the last couple of hours I'm in the park.

But if you like to stand in line . . . have fun! ;)

i like to use fp's and with all the tips ive learned here i will maximize them each time i go now.

I waited in a 35-45 minute line for Space because first, I really wanted to ride it and second, because the fast pass return time wasn't until 9:30pm! Which was about 4 hours later.

After seeing many people have a COW when the fastpass line people were let in the que before them, I honestly believe a LOT of people do not know about fastpass. We did stand in line for a couple rides for 20-27 minutes this week, but it was because we were in between times for getting fast passes or it was at night when the fast passes ran out. Our kids just wanted to ride things, so we decided to wait in the line. However, I would NOT wait in a 90 minute line for anything. There is nothing in the park we want to ride bad enough to waste 90 min standing ...that includes sitting somewhere for 1 1/2-2 hours waiting for Fantasmic/fireworks.

I've noticed this almost everytime we use FP. They look at you like you're cutting. :confused3 I don't think very many people know.
