why do people inch up

I'll do it at some lights because of the sensor, but I also don't inch up beyond the white line

Yeah that. I had a BiL who did the "inching". The guy tailgated something awfull too. Course he hated lines and got very vocal about having to wait for ANYTHING!

:thumbsup2

sensors are typically NOT in the "white" area...

sensors are usually in a square box configuration in the pavement BEFORE the stop bar

It really bugs me when people do this. Around here a lot of people stop at the red light and then inch up the whole time the light is red. Once the light turns green, they drive really slow! How can you be so impatient at the light but when it is time for you to go, you pretty much don't?

I was just behind one of these guys yesterday!

I followed him through 2 intersections and I swear he was halfway through both of them before the light turned green.
I expected him to leave me in the dust - but I almost rear ended him the 1st time because he went so slow once he got the green.

Good thing I didn't - I can't imagine my insurance rates if I rear-ended his fancy Jag!
:scared:

What drives me nuts is when the light turns green, a left-turner will either just sit where they were for the red, waiting for a space to open, and turn, or, they inch up, literally a few inches, then space opens, make the turn, only that car is able to turn before red again. Rules of the Road here in IL are to pull out, into the intersection, perpendicular to the lane you are turning into, which means essentially the middle of the intersection, not the line one was at for the red. If people followed that, generally a minimum of two, maybe three cars could left turn, even if no spaces opened up before turning red again. I so often wonder how people became licensed in the first place.

That drive me batty - I think the law in Florida is that they do have to sit where they were for the red. My dad winters in Delray Beach and it drives him nuts too, what he does is when there is a line to turn left into Publix usually that left turn lane has about 7 cars and the lead driver is not inching, my dad goes in the right lane and cuts in front of everyone, becomes perpendicular to the lane he is turning into and then turns it. At first I was appalled the first time he did he, but when he and I were entering the store; I turned around to look at that left turn lane and those cars were still there. I know I will get flamed on behalf of my dad, but after all the stuff he put up with me while going up - I'm proud to take it.

LOL, Cindy's Mom, I have done the same. I just assume the lead car, whether it is the one in front of me or several up, is stalled or broken down, since it did not move on green. :confused3

You know what REALLY chaps my fanny? In fact I almost started a thread about this a couple of weeks ago.

I am at a red light waiting to turn right. TX has right on red. But the IDIOT next to me in the lane to go STRAIGHT has to KEEP MOVING UP so I can't see whether or not anything is coming! I move, idiot moves, I move a little more, idiot moves a little more. In the meantime the people behind me are in a twist because I won't go! Call me kooky, but I won't turn into a lane if I can't SEE the oncoming traffic!

Of course if you really can't be bothered to wait you can do like the guy behind me the other morning. I was in the right turn lane, light was red. Guy behind me whips out into the lane beside me and turns right AROUND me! There was no way he could see if anyone was coming! (And if I was sitting there he should have assumed I was sitting there for a reason, like maybe there were cars coming?) Nobody hit him, but I really wish a cop would have seen him do it!
