Why do people do this?!

It's such a huge button-pusher for me, and I am not easily bothered by silliness. LOL Some of my adult facebook friends...aargh! Love them, but I can't stand this. Maybe I could understand it if they were posting from a cell or something, but they aren't. Honestly, it has to take just as much time trying to think how to shorten stuff like this, and it takes me twice as long to read it. Anyone share my pain?

Depending on your age--I would consider it juvenile.

But then again, I consider it juvenile anyway.

I can understand a little bit of shorthand...

But some of the txt-ease looks like gibberish to me. I can understand the omission of a letter occasionally--but the complete nonsense, I just don't get.

I agree with you, I don't like when my adult friends type like they are teenagers. I just continue to type normally and hope they will pick up on the concept. But I would never say anything; it's their decision to type that way and I don't want to be too judgemental.

The worst offender is grown, super mature, educated, married to an army man with a little one and another on the way and extremely well spoken in real life. I guess not that any of those things matter. I just don't understand the reasoning behind it.

I actually laugh at my sister! She'll text or call me and say "Did you see my status??? Did you?" and I'll tell her that I did and that I commented on it and she'll say, "What did you say? Tell me." Or if I somehow fail to comment on it, she'll text me and say, "Aren't you going to comment on my status?"

Anyway, I'm lucky that none of my friends try to type in text speak. But what I get a little tired of is the constant use of ellipses... I don't know... I'm not sure what I'm supposed to do.... with all these.... periods... am I supposed to sound.... breathless perhaps... or am I supposed to put pauses after them... I don't know...

I can't stand that kind of posting--I ignore it completely. If you don't have enough time to use vowels, I don't have enough time to read and react to whatever it is you're trying to share.

me too!!! I didn't know what they were called.......lol. My dd laughs at me because I will do that when I text her. I don't even know why I do it. I'll write something like "You have to pick up your brother at 3..........don't forget....."

I saw some posts on my niece's FB the other day and I honestly couldn't understand 3/4 of what was written. It's ridiculous. My friends don't write in 'text speak' but a few throw in random periods. Ex: Going to dinner.With Jenn I hope she's .On time.

I am with all of you on this. It is so annoying.

I am a photographer and there is a "competitor" who writes on her Facebook wall in text speak all the time. Her "professional" website is the same. And people hire her. And her pictures absolutely suck - blurry, overexposed, not even close to being in focus, etc. Of course, maybe they hire her, because she offers sessions for $10 with all edited pictures on a "disk" (her spelling) and a $20 print credit. Maybe if I started writing like I was never taught how to spell, take crappy pictures and paid people to come to me I would be booking all the time, too.

Very annoying.

It's annoying. I think some do it to be cute or cool.

I understand abbreviations (w/, reg., etc), but it can get ridiculous.

Then again, other styles of writing can be annoying, too.

I think DH an I are the only ones left on the planet who do not text on the rare occassion we recieve a text message we do not open them but then rarely do we use our cell phones.

DH does not use message service on the puter or visit any forum boards facebook or anything I recently had to tell him what LOL meant. Yet this man is a puter geek who can fix most anything on the puter.

So, in your mind, are the ellipses pauses?

The reason I think they sound breathless is because one of my best friends, who is the worst offender, actually speaks that way. She sounds slightly breathless and pauses in between a lot of her words. So when anybody types with ellipses, I hear her voice speaking to me.
