Why do Park reservations require tickets?

I have an existing ressie for February 2021 and i don't see the logic in needing to purchase park tickets now to reserve a park date....Anyone??

We all have to jump through a few hoops at present, so if it means guaranteeing entry to a park on a specific day then I think its worth it

Just trying to avoid buying tickets now for a Feb trip that may or may not happen due to Covid....

Disney needs their count because they will cut off entry at whatever their current capacity is. If you don't have a ticket you are taking a spot away from someone that has already purchased a ticket. It would be no different than the people that hold onto multiple ADRs for the same day, and only use one. By the time you may or may not give it up, person B with a purchase ticket has already gone on to another plan for their trip or maybe cancelled their trip completely.

Becky925 i hear what you're saying....what i left out is that i have a two week ressie at BCV's.....that should be enough for their capacity count and allow me to schedule park ressies....buying tickets now that i may or may not be able to use in Feb due to covid seems pointless at this time (seeing that i have a resort ressie)...just my opinion....thanx for your feedback

I hear what you're saying - but you might be surprised at how many people stay DVC and pretty much spend their time at the resort, with MAYBE a couple of days in the parks. Having a DVC reservation doesn't guarantee Disney that you are going to enter the parks every day of your stay (heck it's not even something they can bank on with cash reservations at any of the resorts - we regularly do 8 day trips with only 4 or 5 of those being park days). Holding spots in the park reservations for people with no guarantee they are entering the parks is a money losing proposition for Disney when capacity is limited.

If you add the tickets onto your resort reservation as a package, you 1) don't have to pay full price right now and 2) can cancel the resort and tickets for full refund 30 days prior to arrival.

This is valuable information!!! I'd like to book for January, but didn't want to pay up front for tickets to get the park reservation. Good to know I can go the package route and be refunded for the full amount if we would decide not to go. Things are just too crazy to commit right now and not get refunded for the tickets. Plus, I'm also eyeing December if that would open up to everyone.

If you add tickets, are you able to just refund the tickets at some point and keep the room reservation? (To purchase tickets from another vendor)

We arranged our trip 499 days out for Fort Wilderness in April 2021 and bought only accommodations at that time. Our TA was able to purchase our park tickets for the campsite reservation on Sunday but was unable to purchase for our other site in the Cabins for our daughter. I like the idea of not paying for the tickets up front when you have a room reservation but wonder when we can get the park tickets for the cabin portion.
