Why do I want to add on when I don't *really* need the points?

Does anyone have anything better to do with $2500 :) ?

Yes - invest it in an E-trade CD guaranteed at a 5.0+ % yield for one year...

...tick...tick...tick...(clock ticks)...

...Naw! On second thought BUY SOME MORE POINTS!

Ha ha! I think I might be asking my question in the wrong place...no one here is going to say to NOT add-on, we all have the disease :rotfl: .

One can always talk to a co-worker with good financial sense.

I am about to buy a 150 point BWV contract.
The next question will be to keep or sell my 210 point OKW contract. I just banked 60% of my 2006 OKW points, which is an indicator my use is decreasing (there was a time when I was always borrowed).
Last time I visited I stayed at BWV and like it better than OKW (due to being able to walk to the parks, and the availablity of eating places on the BW, not due to size of rooms as they seemed much smaller).
However, I would never want to use the more expensive BWV points on a DL hotel or a Cruise.

My co-worker points out that if I just sell my 210 OKW points and put that money, plus the money I am about to spend on my 150 BWV points, into a specific type of investiment account (low risk); that I will have all this interest money to spend on vacations. He does have a good point.
Interest was so close to zero when I purchased, and at that time the math really made sense.

don't believe him - Disney is expensive. to stay on property you would actually end up spending more.

besides low risk means low interest. If the thing you are looking at is 7% or more - then check it again. low interest is 5% or less.

I think you need 30% interest on your money to get a better deal than DVC.

that would not be low risk.

to the OP - okay it is hard....but you can actually resist it. I really, really wanted BCV points when it was new. Even brought it - but had to cancel. I am working on retiring sometime in the next 10 years and that means more to me.

of course I don't if I can resist the Cont...... :moped:

Count me in as another Disneased member! ;) I am on the verge of sending an email to my rep telling him to let me know the second he knows CR north wing will be DVC. Anyone else ever contact their rep regarding a rumor!? :rolleyes1 Ohmygawsh...should I be embarassed?

I bought 2 150 pt contracts today and I am planning to add 150 next year. 3 kids will each have 150 pts. However, since I'm not planning to bite the dust anytime soon,I guess they're mine all mine(well and DH's too).

So why is addonitis so powerful?

I wonder if the DVC marketing guys get a bonus for every post like this on the DIS? :wizard: "ching, ching"

Oh, I just need more income. Then I'd have at least 500 points and my own private jet to take me there from CA! I can dream... :wizard:

So that's my problem I just need more income to support my habit? Maybe we should share the jet to reduce the cost.;)

We purchased with the "Go every other year intention" in Sept 2005 by resale 100 points. As soon as we were in the system we added 120 points in Dec 2005. I'm thinking there really is no cure. Can you ever have enough points?:confused3

We already have a May 07 trip planned and Fall 2008 trip. We now need both DLR and WDW fixes, one's just not enough.:sad2:

If CA or Hawaii DVC come out I'll be first in line!:teeth:

Hi, my name is Angela...

We really need a cure for this disnease!

I don't know about the rest of you, but airfare, tickets and food, and vacation time off from work are my limiting factors. Even if someone gave me 500 points for free, I'd still only be able to go to Orlando every other year at the most.

I know what you mean

This is just too funny!!! We have not even passed ROFR on our VERY FIRST DVC and we have discussed adding 100 points at another resort.

If I keep reading these posts, I just might do it!

What we need is some self control! :rotfl2:

It really is a sickness. We bought 150 pts @ SSR figuring we would just go for 1 vacation a year. Then we decided that we wanted to go twice the first year. At the same time DVC had an offer for 120 pts with no maintenance fees for the year and they throw in bonus 100 pts that year. So we bought that. On our first trip we bought AP's, went 4 times in 1 year. And now we're thinking that 270 is just not enought points. I've had a few friends offer to rent from me and I just can't bring myself to do so. I'm sick I tell you, sick sick sick

Omigosh! With the announcement of the AKLV, the symptoms of "addonitis" are really starting up!

REAL! Go to the Mousellaneous board to see the link to the article! :thumbsup2
:Pinkbounc  :cheer2:

We've got the sickness too - Bought our first 150 at SSR 11/05, got on the waitlist for 75 BWV points in March (they came thru in May). Thought we were done for awhile -- until I just told DH that they announced AKV. He instantly said "when will they start selling points there - we can add on!"

The funniest thing I ever read on these boards about addonitis was this:

"I crave points like Whitney Houston craves crack!" :rotfl2:

Sorry I can't credit the original poster - the search function isn't finding this.

just move closer!!! :rotfl:

No thanks, I like my open space and lots of mountains and national forests out west here. I'm just not an "east coaster".

Now, if only the Walt Disney Company would build another DisneyWorld right in the middle of the country, that would be great! :)
