Why did you buy a certain number of points?

We needed 5 units for 4 nights at BWV for my mom's GG, and that's how we picked 200 BWV points. These were bought direct from Disney.

Before we officially closed, we added on 50 VWL, we figured we would go, it would get us time in a studio in December.

Our first DVC trip was to VB in March '04, and before we were home, we called out guide, Michelle, to see if Disney had any VB points, but they didn't, so I went on line and looked for a resale, found 150 VB points with our March use year.

In December '04, we noticed a 50 point VWL resale with March UY and bid on and bought it.

While at the GG in December, my DSis said if she "bought" 50 BWV in our account and paid maintenance would we find room for her at times when we want to go to WDW. It was always a given that we would include her at times, but hey, 50 points is 50 points!

So we have 250 BWV, 150VB and 100VWL, 500 points. We thought we were finished. Today at dinner DH says that he was looking at the government pension program, it seems that his company will file bankruptcy :sad2: and instead of retiring when he's 62, he may have to work until he's 66. The very next words out of his mouth were "The upside is we could buy more points." This would be because when he was 62, we were going to move to Orlando, and he really wanted to work for WDW. We always planned to spend summers in our Cape May home. Now, we'll only need our Cape May house, 1 less house to buy, so more money for points, and care free retirement winter months at WDW! ;) Actually, I just checked it out, probably we would go for a month in WDW, the rest of the year in Cape May, but we would need points for family vacation in WDW, probably we'll end up with 8-900 points.

Just bought in June decided to start with 200 Will be staying mostly in studios. :Pinkbounc

I have 916 pts.

In 1992 we toured OKW, and DH loved it. I...didn't. No maid service, and only one restaurant.

In 1997 we toured BWV, and I fell in love with the place, so...we bought 170 pts, because we would NEVER stay in anything bigger than a studio! :rotfl2:

Then in1999, DD got married at Disney, and we had to put the outlaws SOME-WHERE, so we bought a 175 pt contract. That was certainly enough points...until I stayed at OKW.

SO, I bought 51 points, but I needed more for a grande villa, so I bought 270.

Then DD got divorced, and the court sold her contract, so we bought it at a great price, and that brings us to 916, enough for spring break, summer, and Christmas. :wizard:

We toured DVC when the DVC office was still at BWV. We decided not to buy througth Disney and bought 200 points at BWV through resale. We chose BWV because it had the standard view rooms with lower point values and we liked the Epcot area. When we were in the system, we added 43 points at BWV through Disney and then another 100 points at VWL. We tend to travel at the low point times and that allows us to take our son and daughter-in-law with us for some of the visits.

First contract in 1997 we bought 200 points because that's what we could afford and when we figured it out then, it gave us a fair amount of travel time down there.

We bought the 2nd contract because we realized that we were wrong about the first one, and the more time you spent down there, the more time oyu wanted to spend down there!!!! So we needed more points! ;)

We bought 150 points at VWL because my mom passed away and left us some money, and we wanted to do something special with it. WDW is my special place with my mom, so we decided that the best thing we could do is to take our kids (someday, when we have some LOL) and give them memories like I have with my mom. At the time, 150 points was what we could afford because I was in grad school.

This past spring we bought 300 at SSR, and are looking forward to lots more trips. The extra years are a big bonus!

Our original purchase was through DVC at the VWL and 270 points would cover a 2 bedroom for our normal vacation time in January. Course now we don't go often in January, but ...............

Our second contract is 210 at OKW that we got through resale as we were looking for around 200 points there at the time.

We bought at SSR because thats what they were selling on our third trip in 1 1/2 years. We bought 200 points because thats what we knew we could afford and pay off in a few months with some extra money we had.

We have 206....

150 points we bought at OKW in '96. We bought in at the minimum so we didn't get overextended.

We bought 56 more points in 2001 or so, just when BCV was going to sell out. That will get us four nights in a studio at BCV.

150 at HHI bought in spring 2002

I was a Cast Member then but knew I wouldn't be forever. We bought directly through DVC to get the CM discount. Their smallest contract was all we felt we could afford at the time, so we went with it.

HHI and BCV were the 2 properties for sale at that time. We went with HHI because it may have had a lower point cost and/or offered a better Magical Beginnings credit and/or had lower monthly dues(?). I'm not sure which was (or if all were) true now that it's over 3 years in the hazy past, I just know that the bottom line drove our decision of which property to buy.

We own 300 points at SSR, purchased in Sept 2003 (before SSR opened).

Why SSR?

After doing the research here on the DIS DVC forum, we decided that SSR was where we'd want to stay - there or OKW (When we want that 'hotel' feel, we go to Las Vegas where they do it right) and the extra 12 years will be of use to us and/or DS.

Why 300?

Simple. I figured that 200-250 would meet our needs - so we bought 300 so that we wouldn't ever be point-poor.

Be well.

My brother and I bought DVC points at the same time. He bought 350 at BW and I bought a measly 80 at OKW because I did not want to lay out big bucks. Amazing how many nights I have booked with my tiny contract (but sometimes have "borrowed" a few points from my sweet brother, too, and either paid him cash or just traded points later) I don't go to Disney World every single year but my 80 points, using banking and borrowing privileges, not going at peak times, etc. gives me just what I need. Don't anticipate adding on since this has worked well for me since purchasing DVC over 5 years ago.

We bought 150 points at SSR, which was what we could afford at the time. I plan on adding on next year and hope to eventually have 250 points, which would be perfect for my family. :)

540 BCV.....it's all I can afford!!

And, seriously...dh only gets 3 wks vacation right now, so we really have more points than we can use (we somehow end up "wasting" a week of his vacation on "a day here, a day there").

I am a "BCV junkie" though....he collects WDW pins, I collect BCV points! ;) The moment I can afford more points....I will buy them SOOOO fast!!!

We initially bought 220 BWV points. We did not have a clue what we were doing. Went on a tour at BWV (that's what was selling at the time), liked it, asked guide how many points most folks buy at first and he said "220." Later got into the habit of bringing friends/family, so we have done 5 add-ons. Since we had done no research whatsoever, I feel very lucky to have NOT bought into a bad deal.

We bought in Oct. 2003, before SSR opened. I liked the 12 extra years. We were going to buy 250 but our guide told us that if we did 300 she would divide them into two contracts. We thought that would be good to give to our two kids later. Then DH changed jobs and got a bonus. To celebrate we bought 120 more points. It was the lowest amount to get the 100 extra points and no maintenance for 2005. So now we have 420. DH says that is plenty. The only way he will let me buy more is if Disney opens a DVC at The Contemporary or Animal Kingdom Lodge.

We did 160 at SSR. One is because it takes 160 if we choose not to go to Disney and trade them in for some of the non-Disney properties. Two because right now that is all we can afford.

Eventually I will add on and I would like to have enough to stay for 2 full weeks during choice season in a one bedroom which currently would be 510. That means I have 350 to go ;) Might be a while but choice is my goal as most of our stays start out in choice but end in adventure.

400 at VWL and 150 at BWV... we wanted to be able to visit DVC anytime of the year and not worry about renting from another member.

I bought DVC sight unseen. We had saw the kiosks and breifly glanced. We had never been in the model or seen photos or anything. My sister joined and her DH is a REAL tightwad. I figured it must be good if he bought into it, plus it was Disney. Disney has a really great reputation as well.

We wanted 225, but bought 175 thinking we'd stay in a 1 bdrm for 5 days during the summer. Or with the flexibility could bank/borrow and do different things different years. Then we "went home" to BCV and loved it! Wished we bought more. But didn't want to over do it since our eyes tend to bigger than our wallets (been there done that..not going to do it again!). The month after we closed our contract..I found out I was pregnant with my second child. We realized that in the future they are going to want to go with their families so we added 50 at VWL and would like to add some more in the future when we have the cash. A 1 bedroom would be fine for the four of us and we hardly ever vacation with anyone else. We bought directly from Disney both times.

Have 750, 500 at WLV & 250 at BCV There are 8 of us (ds & ddil 2 gk's(16,11) boy are we getting old, dd & dsil) Wanted to go on family cruise every other year, now would like to go every year and am debating wheather to get points or book cruises in off season. DU is very cheap and disney is getting very expensive. Our family vacation at WLV in July was great, my dd didn't think she and her husband would like it but everyone had a great time. All going to Alaska on points nevt year. :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc
