Why did they change the name of Dixie Landings?

A decision was made (right after our 2000 stay) to merge the two resorts.

Dixie Landings Changed to Port Orleans Riverside and Port Orleans became Port Orleans French QUarter.
They closed the restaurant at FQ, as well as the Marina there.

I think they did that so they could still say that FQ was a moderate without the amenities of a Full Service Restaurant and Recreation.

The official reason was to "tie-in" both of the Port Orleans resorts and give them a unified feel.

Rumors have flown for years about whether this is the real reason or not. Many people feel that the name was changed because the word "Dixie" has all sorts of negative connotations regarding racism, slavery, etc. Personally, I feel that's a load of bilge, but given how sensitive people are these days to words, and how often people decide that a word means something and then foist that belief on everybody around them, it's certainly not impossible that Disney might have changed the name strictly to avoid offending a small group of people who think the word "Dixie" is evil in some way.

Was POFQ a moderate resort before the merge with Dixie Landings?

Yes, always was a moderate.

Moderates were defined as having a food court and sit down restaurant with recreation available.
When they merged into one resort, they closed FQ restaurant and Marina. By having POR and FQ as "one resort" they could still call it a moderate.
Does that make sense?

I think it was changed for both reasons. But that's just me...it isn't based on any inside info or anything. I could be full of doodie.
