I know this is a long shot in finding out the answer, but my DH is pressing me to try to find out from the DIS. We are at WDW right now. We were at HS on Sunday night and didn't want to go to Fantasmic while it was raining, so we decided to go last night instead (Monday, August 17th) at 10:30. It was not raining, and for the first night of our trip there was no lightning or thunder.
We got in to Fantasmic and everything was fine. Mickey had just defeated Maleficent, and you could see the big boat with all of the characters coming around the corner. It was completely dark, and the music was still running, but nothing was happening on stage. Just then an announcement came on that the show would be delayed and that they were hoping to have it running again soon. The boat started backpedaling so that it was not visible anymore. A few minutes later, an announcement came on and said that "due to unforeseen circumstances, this showing of Fantasmic has been cancelled." It was very anti-climatic.
While it really sucked, it wasn't our first time seeing the show. I just feel bad for all those first-timers who might never return to WDW. Unfortunately, we won't be able to get back to Fantasmic on this trip.
My DH and I are so curious as to why this happened. We wonder, since weather didn't SEEM to be an issue, if something happened to one of the performers - specifically, Mickey. That would be the one character the show could not continue without.
Does anyone know? Can anyone find out? We would really love to satisfy our curiosity.
