"Why characters don't talk?"

My 4 year old just asked me why Sofia didn't talk to her when we met her last month.

What do you tell your little ones? Need some ideas. Thanks.
 
I always say that they don't talk because there are so many people from all over the world with different languages, visiting WDW, that the characters don't want anybody to be sad that they do not speak their specific language. That's why the characters all (well, mostly) agreed on not talking in the common way, but only with their hearts, eyes and gestures - languages, everybody would understand.
My kids totally understand that and are fine with that.
 
I always told mine there were too many children waiting to see the characters and if they took time to talk to each child, not everyone would get a turn.
