why can't I just buy a Coke?

Hey BB, where were you in 1985 when they came out with New Coke?
Wow, that was such a bad time in my life, I'd wiped it from my memory!
"The New Coke" was awful! I was and still am addicted to Coke and I love Diet Coke too!
Thanks for the flashback! :hippie:

...What's the deal? Another health thing? Making it so difficult to get your hands on a Coke in the park that you will give up and buy the vitamin water? Then what's with the free soft drinks at Club Cool?
Disney is reducing expenses. Food packaging is often the most expensive component that can easily exceed the cost of the actual food component.

Simply, Disney is eliminating the more expensive method of providing guest soda. Fountain systems are always cheaper and Disney is continuing to review current practices to reduce cost. This is a major focus over recent years and their not finished either.

We have gone from A Year of a Millions Dreams all the way down to Celebrate Your Birthday, which one could perceive their expecting a down turn in business and want to cater to the local population around their parks.

That's a new one - catering to locals by the free birthday.

To go along with eliminating Pleasure Island and making it extremely difficult to get a Disney restaurant reservation, no doubt.

The fountain sodas may be cheaper for Disney, but I'm not going to buy them as they are not easy to carry around. I'd get bottles elsewhere.

I looked at the back of the vitamin water label: 50 calories per serving. Which is 50 calories more than a Diet Coke.

And I'd guess the bottle holds at least 2 servings.

We found a couple of kiosks in World Showcase that will still sell you a bottle of Coke.

yup 50 per serving--there are 2.5 servings in a bottle so they have 125 calories per bottle. Not healthier than my diet coke!

If my bday wasn't in the summer I would be there too! If DH wasn't ON a holiday during high season, I would be there for that. I think it is a great new theme and people will be coming from all over for it as well as to celebrate lots of other things.

I saw the funny water at a few carts last month while I was there. Just went to the next one and got my bottle. If they stop carrying it in the carts, I will just switch to regular water. Can't drink the fountain beverages, especially at MK. Tastes too much like the lagoon out front for me :scared:

Can't imagine the locals will be inspired to take the day off from work for such a trivial offering. Most of them have passes to the parks anyway. I remember seeing posted that you get the gift card equivalent of a park pass if you already have a park pass - but you can't use it for dining, just for merchandise, and it's only good on the birthday. If they want to take the day off for some shopping, maybe.

I have an AP. I always came down for my birthday so I could spend it at the Adventurers Club, can't do that anymore. I don't need more merchandise. So I will doubtless skip the birthday this year - first time in six or seven years.

(still want easy access to my Diet Coke bottles, too)

I agree, unless I'm in a restaurant or using my refillable mug, I get a bottle of soda. I can never drink a whole soda at once, and with a bottle, I am able to keep it in my bag.

Wow, this is ridiculous. I can't believe you can't buy soda at the drink cart now. They have been doing alot of crazy stuff lately. Who is making these decisions?

I guess I'll have to take the big cooler so I can stock it with bottled water AND Coke.....

Dont' panic DisneyNY. Looks like we are getting reports that this is not entirely the case. Folks there just this week report now that they saw plenty of sodas in the carts. So we're safe!

going back down this weekend - I will try the same spots at MK and Epcot - see if they say the same thing they said 2 weeks ago.
