Why are they only double size beds?

In looking thru the website it seems all the resorts val & mod all have double size beds? Why? The swan does offer queen size, but my down side to that is the transportation, since it's not a disney hotel. I would like to stay at the all stars since it's more a disney themed hotel, but at double beds, oh no... We sleep in a king size, and have been used to that for 13 years. We rented a condo last year and got stuck with the room with a queen size and hated it. We couldn't move around, turn, nothing. I had to go and sleep in a twin bed to be confortable. Now imagine a double bed? We are 4 traveling my 12 year old and my 7 year old also are gonna want space. What can I do? Please give me some advise as to what to do. Again i'm leaning towards the all star movies, but the double beds are too small. And I think the family suite is too overpriced. HELP!!!:

I am afraid you will have to bite the bullet and use double beds - maybe get two rooms - or go offsite. Doublebeds are small..... but all there are at value and mods

Look into renting points for or just going directly for a 1bdrm DVC villa.

That would give you your King and a Pullout for the kids.

We stay in Studios with the Queen but that what we have at home and DD just loves to take air mattress

We booked a King room with a connecting double room when we stayed at POP last year.

i also say go for a villa. my family's stayed at okw and ssr and we get a two bedroom, it's really comfy (a one bedroom would also work), plus you get the perk of a kitchen for late night meals or early morning food (which is good when getting back from the parks and you don't want to walk to the restaurants or if some are ready before others in the morning and are wanting to eat).
or another option if you are willing to spend the money, get a room at poly. my family had a grand gathering there the week of christmas (including christmas eve and day). we got the 2 beds (which i'm pretty sure were queen- the deluxes have queens instead of doubles last time i checked) and then also a "daybed", but in reality, my sister who is 22yrd slept on it, it pulls out sort of like a futon, but has a mattress so it's really comfy and that gives you all 3 beds. plus poly is absolutely wonderful.
maybe check out wilderness lodge too- they may have a room with a bigger bed and then the bunkbeds.

Just an FYI

The Family Suites are the least expensive room option that Disney offers which have a Queen size bed.

The other values and mods do not offer a Queen Size bed.

For comparison, the price of a Family Suite is $9-11 more then 2 Standard Rooms, or $13-15 less the 2 Preferred Rooms, depending on season.

Also a fridge is included in AS Suite.

Fridges cost $10 a night to rent when staying at a value . Don't forget the Queen size bed,a coffee pot and microwave are also in Family Suites.

DH and I stayed in a Family Suite at All Star Music ( a value resort) last Sept. (2006)

We really enjoyed the Queen size bed, the kitchenette with the microwave, having a sofa and cushioned chair to sit on and relax after a day at the parks before retiring for the evening.

I thought the pullouts very comfortable.

They are designed so the back cushion and seat cushion of the pullout support the pullout. There is no meatle bar to hurt the sleepers back.

I agree double beds stink! I really wish the king bed rooms had a queen size sofa bed our a couple of those fold our chairs that the All Star Family suites have. That would be perfect for our family!

Even a queen bed with the bunk beds would be a great alternative like the have at WL and AK.

There is no room for bigger beds, those rooms are tiny. However, my understanding is that Swan and Dolphin do use the same transportation as the Disney hotels, so you may want to double check that.

You are right.....double beds are too small.....

You'll either have to spring for a suite at the values....your
cheapest option....Or FW cabin....even more....

Only the deluxes have queens.....I guarantee that they
won't change to queens in mods.....cause that is one of
the biggest draw to the deluxes...

Just an FYI the cabins do not have a queen size bed,

They are 2 doubles and set of bunks.

Of course the adults could split up and each take a double bed. The children could each have thier own bunk.

I figure at POFQ....with all the extra blankets I will order to make

to get the queen - you got to move up to the deluxe.

now the values definitely have a king bed - you could get two rooms a king for you and a double for your kids.

the kings are generally for handicapped - so it might not have a tub just a roll in shower.

That's what I was going to say. Most hotels we stay at, Disney or not, have either one queen or 2 doubles in the room (I'm talking just regular chain hotels like a Comfort Inn, not high end hotels). It seems to be the industry standard.

My husband and I don't mind squeezing into a double, but if that's a problem for you I think the best suggestion is the one given above - get a king room with a connecting room with doubles at a value.

When have stayed in a Value and a Moderate these past two trips, both double beds. I slept alone on the first trip and DH slept with DD. This trip DH slept with me and I thought he was going to run me over in the head. We are used to a King at home. This next trip we will be in a Deluxe and I am hoping the queen will help me get some sleep!

I think 2 Double beds were the standard in this country before around 1980 or 1990.

So if you are staying at an older hotel there may be only doubles.

Most hotels that were built after 1990 in this country have 2 queens or 1 king.

I have been traveling many years and these are just my personal observations.

You can not use Magical Express to and from the airport if staying at the Swan or Dolphin however the regular Disney transportation buses to and from the parks do stop by Swan and Dolphin And there is a boat that will take you to Epcot and MGM from there as well

Wouldn’t work. The Value rooms are 260 square feet – possibly ONE fold out chair would fit… but then some Guests would complain that it’s not really a bed; plus, the occupancy permit for a king-bed room is two people plus one child under three in a pack & play.

Side note on the suggestions to get connecting rooms: Connecting rooms are NOT guaranteed - even if it says so on your reservation confirmation. Disney does its best to grant all requests, and does better than most other hotels - but if there are no connecting rooms when you check in, they really can't cut a door between two adjoining rooms (if there are even any of those available).
