Why are the fireworks restricted now when they weren't for the first 10 or 11 years?

Sick of these fireworks restrictions. Even when I visited back in 2002 and 2003 there were fireworks during the Christmas season then when I brought my daughter for her first trip in 2008 they were gone! Can't understand how it's ok to do them at 11 o'clock at night in the summer but they can't do them at 5 or 6pm when it gets dark in the winter. It's hardly keeping anyone up at that time.

Does anyone know the full story of the restrictions? When they happened? Why they happened? If it's local residents surely they would be less bothered by 6pm fireworks than late night fireworks so it doesn't make any sense to me as to why they only do them in the summer.

The fireworks were always the highlight of the trip. My daughter would love to see them. Really don't understand why they happened for 10 or 11 years and then stopped and really don't understand why summer is ok and winter is not.

I'm hearing that Dreams is only going to run until September due to these restrictions so not happy about that but maybe someone can clarify this

I think Dreams is going to run all year as its not a firework display, its just that they are late opening the park till 10pm until September. By then its get darker earlier so they can run the show earlier in the evening

one part of the explanation lies in the climate of the area
It's useless trying to shoot fireworks through low level clouds or on rainy days
Summer is one of the only time of year you can really expect to be able to shoot those fireworks everynight
Why schedule a fireworks show when you have to cancel it 6 nights a week due to weather conditions ?
But this is only the somewhat logical/science explanation

another part of the explanation is an untold one. The parks do not have the money, simple as that.
I know it sounds silly since the parks are always packed, but they just don't have enough money for maintenance, so they cut expenses where they can.
And that's as close to the full story as it gets.

The official reason is that there was a complaint from local residents and Disney were told they can only fire them on a limited number of nights.

Alton Towers suffers from similar problems and for years weren't allowed to have any fireworks at all.

I suspect the real reason is that they cost a lot of money and I think when the complaint came in Disney were more than happy to accept it.

The new Dreams show does feature fireworks. I reckon they'll do 2 versions of the show: one with fireworks and one without. That is just pure speculation on my behalf though.

Didn't know it featured fireworks as I have avoided reading about it as I want it to be a surprise when I go:thumbsup2

I appreciate seeing the fireworks is amazing, but I think we also have to think about local residents, no matter what time of day they are - fireworks are annoying if you have to 'live' with them - I get frustrated by the third night of fireworks near bonfire night, waking up DD, over the TV etc. Imagine having that every night!

Although it seems the bigger picture is to do with cost, I think we also have to think about the wider community near DLP!

Rosebug, I agree with you to a degree however I was always curious to know if the residents who complained were people who lived there back in the 80s or early 90s or were they people who moved into the area AFTER DLP had been completed? I wouldn't put it past people to move into a place close to DLP and then go, ah actually no I don't like the noise of these fireworks that I knew would be going off when I bought the house. It's like buying a house under a flight path of an airport and then waging a campaign against the airport because of the noise.

Even if it is a financial reason I was still always baffled that they didn't do them during the Christmas season even just at weekends.
