Why are some people so preoccupied with finding life on other planets?

I’m curious if there are other life forms out there, but I don’t dwell or worry about it.

Ultimately, it's about the scientific pursuit of knowledge. Yes, I'm sure there are people who want to know more from a sci fi movie perspective, but the reality is that the more we learn about potential life out there, the more we can potentially learn to help ourselves with life on this planet. Most of our human advancements would not be possible without this natural curiosity.
