Why are people so defensive about a little honest criticism of Disney?

I am NOT a whiner. I like WDW and Disney as much or more than the next guy, LOL. I am also not one for a debate. I avoid the Debate Board like the plague.

However, we had a less than Disney-esque experience at the 999 Happy Haunts Ball last week and I had the audacity to express a negative opinion about it on the Collector's Board. I knew I would get flamed (and said so in the title), but thought it was important to say what I thought.

Essentially in response (although other posters cited a similar experience as well) I was told that I "shouldn't have gone to the event" in the first place. I was questioned on why I bothered to attend the event. I was told that you only get out of something what you put into it. I was even seriously chastised for mentioning that we also attended Universal. "Isn't this a DISNEY board?" How dare you... blah blah blah.

I was even told that I should take the Nightmare Before Christmas graphic out of my signature. Jeesh....

Simply ridiculous...

You will get attacked on this board because their are alot of disney apologists here who feel disney can do no wrong and for some it is a religion!!!

Wow, sorry you had to go through that. That sounds quite extreme! Hang in there, don't let them get to you, it sounds as if they need to relax a little!:D

I always try to find the good in all that's Disney, but I realize they do screw up now and then. I don't think anyone should flame you for speaking the truth. If they mess up, they need to know. It's the only way they can try and prevent screw ups the next time. I hope you let Disney know what you experienced.

I also read your post. Don't overlook all of the posts you received that agreed with you. :)

I also noticed that some of the reaction you received was not unexpected. There are bound to be differing opinions, otherwise, we would all be Republicans huh BobO ;)

I'm sorry it was not what you expected.

You want to see some complaints about Disney :p Just check out any and all threads about the Holiday coupon code from the Disney Store. But seriously if you had a problem during your stay at Disney then email them or send them a letter explaining the problems you had while you were there.

Kelsie, Im not a republican, im a conservative!!!

No joke!

There are some people that feel like Disney can do no wrong. I love the company, but I feel the moves they've been making these days are more wrong than right.

"Well, other companies..." is my favorite line. I wonder what would have happened if they followed other companies cues when building DL or in their animation department. Actually it's a pretty safe bet that Snow White would have never been made & DL probably wouldn't have been built or it would have been Sicks-Flags-ised.

When did the desire to lead, turn into a need to follow? :(

I think that no matter what you on any any board there are going to be people who disagree with you.

Disney isn't perfect but I'm still addicted.

{{{HUGS}}} sweetie, sounds like you got your feelings a little hurt.

I understand your problem, Dodie. It's unfortunate that you didn't feel 999 HH was worth your time or money. I don't necessarily think that Disney did something wrong in this case, but rather, the event just didn't fit the expectations of some of the guests. While 999 HH wasn't your cup of tea, I'm sure there were many others who absolutely loved it. To each his/her own... I don't think I would luuuurrrrvvvve every event that Disney offers, but the only real way I will know that is to experience them for myself. Then, I can look back and say, "You know, that didn't really fit my taste/style/wants/needs."
I hope that's what you chalk it up to, and just brush off any negative things other DISers wrote to you. There are some groups that are more inclined to be protective of some things (don't mess with RnR or Restaurant Akershus, my friend;) :p ;) :p ), so just take some things with a grain of salt. After all, the comments probably weren't personal attacks, but rather defense mechanisms.
So, I hope that your next WDW event is an enjoyable one... and I'll see you around on the DIS!

BOB O. is absolutely RIGHT (for a change:D ). Around here, DISNEY sometimes comes between mom and apple pie; it transcends religion     ......

You're going to get that on any online forum. There are trends that show themselves throughout any online community I've ever visited or been a part of.

Anybody with a PC can get online and use forums as their soapbox or their billy club. There are no requirements. You don't have to be a nice person, you don't have to be sane, your arguments don't have to be well thought out and above all, it's relatively anonymous. People can sit safely at home and hurl barbs and judgemental insults and not have to back it up like they would if they were standing face to face with you.

As a result, you meet a lot of nutcases who are socially retarded. Many times they're cowards, shut-ins, or too stupid to know they're being unneccessarily offensive.

Remember those weirdos that carried "the end is nigh" signs? Now they all have AOL accounts.

Consider it just words on a screen. Don't take it to heart.
